Raising Children & Rising Up: It Takes A Village – Free Range Child Video #3

http://overgrowthesystem.com/raising-children-rising-up-it-takes-a-village-free-range-child-video-3/

New video and article for Free Range Child featuring Madrone Timothy Fenton of White Crow Farm and words by Eleanor Young.

"The African proverb, ‘It takes a Village to raise a child’ is a truth

that we know in our bones. Instinctually, we know children need more

than what the nuclear family offers them and us. It is a great fault in

modern society that we separate children from the world and work of

adults. Taking from the permaculture principle of integration not

segregation we need to include children so they can learn and grow

deeper into themselves as a whole through every opportunity of

connection and interaction."

Into The Valley

From the beginning of my recent #SWParksTour this shot of the Yosemite Valley is among my favorites.  The very small flow in Bridalveil Falls speaks to how dry the last year has been, but it did not prevent the valley from living up to its reputation for beauty.

This image is a perfect addition to the collection I'm putting together for the Healing Art Cart program.  A view like this will certainly help to take the mind away from suffering.

Say Hello!

I just wanted to share with you all....

Yesterday I had the day of my career...

My on line store 'Artfinder', selected me as their artist if the week, as such I got my own email, sent world wide to all Artfinder members saying Hello!

The response was phenomenal...amazing...I mean blown out of the water top drawer!

I had almost 8000 views in my store, 77 new followers and wait for it...16 paintings sold!

I mean...WOW, just wow. I also had some lovely emails and messages of congratulations and support from customers, colleagues, contemporaries and peers from around the world...it was MY day. I doubt it will ever be repeated- but wow.

I don't think it was entirely a mistake...but the reward for well crafted persistent campaigns for reaching my customers, and sharing Artfinder with my followers and colleagues.

I read on the fora about lack of exposure for some people, but it is a two way street...you promote and Artfinder will promote...they are of course in the business of making money and want to 'invest' in those who invest in themselves. So if you are an Artfinder artist and find yourself invisible...start shouting!

I cant thank ALL my supporters enough for everything, from my Patrons who pay my wages, to those who 'like' a post on Facebook, from Artfinder for their part and the wonderful door that has been opened for me.

Wanna Dance With You Baby

Dearest friends,

Driving back from the Basque country, I wrote two songs, specially for my forthcoming album with Iban Nikolai on didgeridoo. This was the second one. It is in the key of B flat, perfect for his pitch adjustable didgeridoo, which has a beautiful resonance.

I Wanna Dance With You Baby

Chorus

I wanna dance with you baby, dance with you baby (3x)

Maybe we can dance the shame away

Verse 1

Don’t be afraid, I am not gonna hurt you

The battlefield is at least a mile away

I’ve done my duty killing all that I could

My weapons are down, I think I’ll call it a day

Chorus

Verse 2

I can see in your eyes that you’re attracted to me

You can probably sense that I’m attracted to you too

Before we return to our opposite sides

Let’s work on peace between me and you

Chorus

Verse 3

I know you’ve lost your father and brothers

Most likely lost significant others

It makes no sense what’s happening here

All this suffering caused by greed and fear

Final Chorus

I wanna cry with you baby cry with you baby (3x)

Maybe we can cry the war away

More soon...

A new song, sad but filled with hope

Good morning my beloved Patreon family! As I promised you in my last post yesterday I recorded a simple demo of my new song that I wrote in the past week and here it is!

It is quite different from what I have been writing, much more personal and not exactly happy vibes...but this is where I am and I can only speak my Heart.

My beloved Partner of a year and a half and I have decided to part ways to allow each other the time and space to grow as individuals and focus on our paths, with the hope and the intention of finding each other again. I wrote this song at a time when I was still unsure on what to do but as always music comes as healing and clarity is my Friend again.

We're both way too blessed to be stressed, and there is still so much Love in our heart for each other, it's just that sometimes Love loves by letting go...

I hope you enjoy, I am so so happy to share this with you guys before anyone else <3

My dearest, lovely Patrons, I am alive, I have been going through quite an emotional roller coaster for heart related matters but I am well and I have been writing. On Tuesday I went to Margate to have some space, solitude and time to sit  and work through what's been going on within me. Now clarity is my Friend again, and I am excited to have a brand new song to share with you all (before anyone else gets to hear it, because you are way cooler!). I am in the studio today and I'll try to get a simple recording done to send your way asap!

Thank you so so much for being here, as of now your support and kindness are keeping me alive, figuratively and literally

Eva Machado So good to hear from you brother, literally you are beautiful, looking forward to hear the song, its amazing how a sound created through you in the space of solitude has only been heard by the wind, trees and ocean, there it remains until your hands carve it into soundwaves and compress the harmonic resonance of your soul, poured into a file that will travel in the cosmicweb to us. This amazing communion of hearts is here thanks to you, enchanted by the spell of your music. i woooowwwwwve you, xxx

Work in progress- on the lake

Here is the very first look at a work in progress from my Canadian adventure.

It's all one hue, layer upon layer to build up the different tonal values that make a watercolour work. This is a landscape technique I particularly enjoy. There's another 3 layers to go on this one at least before it's done.

It has a real moody feel to it, a pre dawn moonlit scene that is incredible peaceful.

I'm 'living with it' right now...just checking it's ready for viewing,

Team Studio Jill will get the full first look when it's ready to be shared.

Headed to NC!

Dear Friends, Supporters, Brothers, Sisters, and everyone in between!

We'd like to announce that the Carnival bus is officially PACKED. We've gathered all props, costumes, bikes, and toys and are beginning our trek to North Carolina this very day! By Friday we'll have the entire crew with us (nineteen wild and talented folks) and will begin prepping for our weekend activities in Charlotte, September 18th-20th. Although we have many rehearsals planned during this time, the Carnival believes in nurturing and providing tools of inner transformation for the crew as well and so we've included time during our training week to discuss anti-racism, cultural appropriation, theological reflection, and group worship and sabbath. It's going to be a busy week indeed!

We'll be taking a break from Patreon posts during this time but if you'd like to follow us during the next few weeks you can like our Facebook page. If you want to be sure our posts aren't swallowed by the Facebook algorithm, just go to our page, click the drop down menu next to the "like" button and select "See First". Then, you're sure to get our updates!

We hope to see many of you there!

Love,

The Queen of Clubs

THE QUEEN OF CLUBS - or so she might have one day become - destined to cover her face and sit by the fire among her aunts, or die in childbirth like her mother - had she not forged her own war-club and followed the tracks of a foundling she-bear into the forest beyond her father's high walls.

None can say for certain what became of her - although there are hunters from the borderlands who claim to have seen her among the trees: a warrior maiden clad in iron and ragged pelts, more animal than human, with lichen on her armor and wildfire in her eyes. Legend names her the Bear Queen, and only the very brave or very foolish would venture to set a snare in her woods.

Little Red Rooster - different edit!

This is wonderful! And I want to post this as a bonus (unpledged) video for this month.

Michele, one of my most loyal patrons, has done her own edit of the video I posted last week.

I had sent her the time-lapsed photos, to see if she had any ideas for how to make it work as a video. She worked on our videos before and it was Michele who produced that wonderful video for 'Clyde' at the market in Pedreguer. Whenever I am stuck on technical details, I go to her for advice. :-)

Michele has now done her own edit, and she managed to make it look like an old film. It suits the mood of the song perfectly, and it also makes it look like the jitteriness (I had the iPhone on the wrong setting) was intentional!

She also managed to make full use of the additional footage I shot the next morning. If you listen carefully to the intro section (before the song starts), you will hear a cock crow. How cool is that?!

Thank you Michele, you are the best!

(public post, welcome to share)

UPDATE: This song is now for sale to raise funds for those in need: http://bit.ly/dreams-like-ours.

This evening when I picked up my guitar, this song was suddenly there asking to be shared.

I -as I'm sure many of us are- am deeply affected by the current refugee situation in Europe. I think it's insane that our leaders are so obsessed with their invented borders that people are dying while the politicians avoid helping.

We are all ONE FAMILY sharing ONE EARTH, we've got to do this together!

Happily, there are also many beautiful stories of hope, like in Germany where people are welcoming the refugees with open arms, and I know many who are taking steps to support those in need. There is light in the world, and I am so grateful for this!

This song asked to be sung, I hope that it helps in some small way. I am also donating money and more to add my bit of support where it is needed.

Love to you all

Nate

PS: a huge welcome to all the new patrons, welcome to The Nateives, this song and all my creations come into the world thanks to your support, words cannot say how much it means to me, THANK YOU!

LYRICS:

I have a simple question

Though the answer I think will bring me pain

Why do our rulers turn aside

As you wash up on the shore today

So many dreams like ours

Lost beneath the waves

Doesn’t seem so fair somehow

Who pays the price in graves

These lines they invented

Keep us separated and caged

But every child just wants to love

Still I watch them pass away

So many dreams like ours

Lost beneath the waves

Doesn’t seem so fair somehow

Who pays the price in graves

But I see the light in those who fight

For the right to give and to share

Those who raise their voices, make clear their choices

Say “you are all welcome here"

So many dreams like ours

Lost beneath the waves

Doesn’t seem so fair somehow

Who pays the price in graves

Erryn I also had tears 😟 This song starts out like another of your songs. No one should suffer, especially children, elderly and people with disabilities. Thank you for wearing your heart on your sleeve! I read up some more on this situation-very sad. I have a hard time watching the news because most of it is negative and everyone has an agenda-but I don't want to be blind, ignorant or indifferent. As we get more people here in the U.S., I am sure there will be more controversy. I could say so much more, but I won't. Thanks for sharing and doing good in the world!

Erryn Maybe it reminded me of Keep It Hid-but it's not the same-now I can't figure it out. Oh well-it's another great song!

Good for you by Selena Gomez. I liked the song the moment I heard it and wanted to try my own spin! Chilled hypnotic vibes for the end of summer. *-.-* No instruments again... I think I'm starting ...

Good for you by Selena Gomez

Yup. I did it.

I covered a Selena song!

AND I did it back to back with my Elastic Heart cover that I posted earlier this week. 2 covers in one week. KILLIN' IT!

What is happening!?! I guess it's a burst of creative energy, so I'm just rollin' with it! :)

This was a very spontaneous recording... I was working for a local commercial and got my makeup done in the morning. (um?  why am I so lucky? Get to have my makeup done for WORK!)

My work was finished by lunch and I thought - there's no way I'm letting this amazing makeup go to waste!

So I quickly went over some songs in the charts and remembered Good for You, which I thought was hypnotic and awesome. So it stuck with me, and away I went!

I practiced as much as possible until the sun started setting, and a friend of mine here in London was kind enough to allow me to use his beautiful patio.  I had about 568.3 seconds before the sun was going down! I recorded this in speed mode. Really didn't think I was gonna make it!  (That's why it's a tiny bit sloppy and sometimes no so in focus. :/// Sorry about that guys - I was rushed by the beautiful setting sun.)

Annnnnnyway.

I'm really happy with the result.

I opted for no guitar again - just vocal instrumentation, which I am really starting to dig.

Let me know your thoughts on sound, song choice, overall look of the video.

Thank you so much for your pledge in September!

Allllll my love and hugs to you :)

Wendy S Herdman Hypnotic is right. :) You might apologize for it, but I think the slight roughness of the recording actually adds a beautifully intimate, gritty feel to the song. Very real. A more polished vocal presentation wouldn't, I think, have the same emotional reach. Love this. Thank you!

David Cabrera First impressions: you look great, the song goes really well with your voice, it's almost as it was written for you. I actually had not heard it before so I looked it up after I saw your video, and the video really complements it well. I really like the lighting, it brings out your face quite well, I'm glad you didn't waste the make up session :) Keep making great music!

I'm a simple man who feels a lot about the world. I write about that in my songs. I'm an unintentional philosopher, a hopeful romantic, a modern troubadour. I think deeply about the world around me an
