First of all, thanks for deciding to support us!

If you want to support us but don't have a lot to spare, it'd be great if you could support us with a couple of pounds per month. You would help keep the website running and enable to support local writers which we will publish on our site. After this, the website is for you and the community.

A £5 a month subscription would enable us to both keep our site running and allow us to commit to regular Q&As and livestreams with guests. We will post our contributor features a week before them being published on our site and social media, giving you priority access to all our content first.

About North East Heritage Library

The North East Heritage Library is a community driven initiative to document historic sites and stories in our area. We aim to make our heritage accessible, engaging, inclusive and educational to all, constantly striving to reach out to diverse communities.

Focused on the areas of South East Northumberland, Tyneside and Wearside, we aim to make local history engaging, accessible and inclusive. Local history groups and websites are mostly grassroots and community driven. This is critical in keeping our local heritage alive, but it is just as vital to accomodate people who aren't just interested in reading essays and sifting the internet for various sources. As a result, we want to make our resource visually interesting, using maps, pictures and interactive tools to make local history exciting and compact.

We are growing at a solid pace, and have built up a substantial library of resources already for the people of the North East to get their teeth into. However going forwards, we want the site to expand on its mission statement and appeal to those we haven't quite reached yet. As a result, going forwards we're reaching out to amateur writers and historians across the region to come to us with their specific niche. That could be anything from LGBT history in Newcastle, to the history of theatres or poetry in the North East. If we got to this point, we will be well on our way to being a fully inclusive and all encompassing local history site.
