A catalog of DIY spaces and promoters at DoDIY.org

Since 2007, DoDIY.org has existed to support DIY venues, promoters, musicians, performers, speakers, artists, and activists who were looking for like-minded folks around the world.

Milestone Goals
Add Listing For 10 More Countries
$500 per month
If I was able to meet this goal, I could spend less time hustling for cash and more time sorting through the epic list of venues and DIY-minded people that I've been compiling over the years. So, what I'm saying is, if I meet this goal and continue to maintain this monthly amount via donations for at least 3 months, I promise to add new pages for at least 10 more countries.
FULL-TIME
$1,200 per month
DoDIY would be my full-time job, the site would stay extremely up-to-date, and I'm guessing the listings would at least double, if not triple.
FAMILY PLAN
$3,000 per month
DoDIY would be my full-time job, plus I'd be able to save up some money to buy land, pay for stuff for my kid, and be a legit grown-up person.
EVERYTHING
$37,500 per month
So far this year, an average of 7,500 unique visitors have been hanging out on DoDIY.org every month. If every person were able to pledge $5/month, that's $37,500 per month. That's $450,000 per year. Just imagine. For that, I could buy some land, call it "DoDIY HQ" and invite y'all out to do artist/music residencies, buy a tour van (or several) for folks to share, and/or provide grants to support rad projects. I could probably even ride a unicorn to the moon (everyone would be invited to come along).

About

Neil Campau spent his early years in a small northern-Michigan town named Alpena, originally founded for logging and now most notable for the manufacturing of concrete blocks. After leaving Alpena and spending four years at a liberal arts college in southern Michigan, he moved to Chicago. He lived there for three years and then followed his now-ex-partner to Seattle, where she was to attend graduate school. While in Seattle, he lived in a few collective houses, a few apartments, and aboard four different boats. He has toured Mexico, Canada, Italy and the U.S. extensively, playing music as “World History” or “Electrician” and founded a website that catalogs DIY venues all over the world, at DoDIY.org. Neil lived in a squat in Oakland, California, for a couple years and then hit the road indefinitely, in a motorhome with his partner (Ellen), and baby (Cricket). He is currently slowly moving around the United States.

For the most part, DoDIY.org is run by one guy. I pay for the hosting/domain. I spend endless hours updating the site, sending emails, scrounging the internet for more DIY venues, and answering questions. I'm currently on perma-tour with my partner and baby, playing music, meeting new people, getting in conversations about "DIY" and the communities surrounding it, scouring bulletin boards and telephone poles, taking notes, and constantly learning about new spaces and promoters to add to this website. Your donation will help pay for site fees, printing and distributing of the zine I wrote about hosting DIY events, and general living/touring expenses (spending so much time working on this site doesn't lend well to having a regular job). That's my sob story. Fundraising feels really awkward, but I really-really can't do this without you.
