About

A letter from the creator of NEMS Linux

I'm so excited about NEMS. I feel like I've created something that needed to be created. Nagios is notoriously difficult to setup and configure, and I'm working hard to make NEMS the easiest out-of-the-box experience ever -- and one that runs on affordable hardware.

You're here with me at the start of something great. Years from now, you and I will look back and say, "Wow, it started there. I helped build this." and that's exactly what Patreon helps you to do: help me build this.

Let's do this together!

I know there are some NEMS users who simply wanted to give it a try to see what it's all about. But then there are those of us who deployed NEMS Linux for a very specific reason: to save many, many hours of work.

To the first group, I hope you'll consider becoming a Patron having found NEMS to be a great tool on your network. For the second group, I hope you'll acknowledge the time NEMS has saved you, and take this on as an expense. I'll never charge for NEMS, but Patreon lets you say "Wow, this is a great service Robbie is providing, and I want to help him do it by putting some money into it each month."

No matter your reason for being here, pick the tier you're most comfortable with, and let's make NEMS the best it can be!

Thank you!
Robbie Ferguson // The Bald Nerd

Important Note for Patrons

NEMS Linux is free to download and use. I've worked hard to create interesting and useful perks for Patrons to enjoy, but these do not make NEMS Linux a commercial product. By becoming a Patron at any level, you are choosing to support me and the development of NEMS Linux. You are not buying NEMS Linux. It's still a free product, but your support comes with perks.

With this thought in mind, please remember that I am one guy developing NEMS Linux in his free time. The offer of priority support to Patrons means what free time I dedicate to NEMS will be prioritized to assist Patrons first. It does not mean that you are paying for commercial support, nor does it mean that I can always be on call or able to provide immediate resolution to every problem. It simply means that if I have two calls come in and one is from you, a Patron, I'll respond to yours first.

Thank you for choosing to support NEMS Linux, and its nerdy developer, me!

NEMS Status

NEMS is an established product. The first release was on May 8, 2016. Since then, there have been several major releases and exciting progress to get NEMS to where it is today. Check out the changelogs to see for yourself:
https://docs.nemslinux.com/changelogs

NEMS Linux is continually evolving, and with every major release and every minor update, it becomes better and better. There are times when bugs creep in, and I do my best to remediate these as quickly as possible. I appreciate each and every user who takes the time to report any issues encountered, and the patience as I work out a solution.

Patron Perks

NEMS Linux is free. So I've setup perks to give something back to Patrons and add value to your monthly contribution. Please review the various support tiers, and let me know if you need something customized.

All patrons, at any level, will receive early download access to major NEMS Linux releases.

You Will Be Charged at Sign-Up

To ensure you have immediate access to Patron-exclusive content, you will be charged at the time of sign-up, and then on the 1st of each month. This is usually not a problem, but please do keep in mind that if you sign up on the last day of the month, you will be charged two days in a row.

About NEMS Linux
NEMS Linux (nemslinux.com), short for Nagios Enterprise Monitoring Server, is a modern pre-configured, customized and ready-to-deploy Nagios Core image designed to run on low-cost micro computers. At its core NEMS is a lightweight Debian Linux deployment optimized for performance, reliability and ease of use.

NEMS Linux is free to download, deploy, and use. It is created by Robbie Ferguson (that's me!)--the host of Category5 Technology TV. As a free product, NEMS' development is supported by its community of users. Your patronage will help me further improve NEMS, offset the cost to operate, code, update and distribute NEMS, and even allow me to do things like purchase other SBC's to port NEMS Linux to. I also dream of being able to buy ad space to promote NEMS, and would even like to be able to afford to donate NEMS appliances to charities who could benefit from it.
Goals
$948.84 of $2,500 per month
As per this forum thread, I'd like to write a program to auto-discover new hosts on the network, detect some of the available service checks for that host, and populate the data in NConf. A network auto-discovery back-end and front-end for NEMS Linux. This will be a large undertaking and will take some time, but with the funding to back development, it will help me be able to commit the time to this.
