About New Worlder

New Worlder is an independent publication completely supported by readers and listeners like you. Since 2016, the website has helped tell unique stories from around the Americas that weren't being told by mainstream publications. It is edited by Nicholas Gill, a food writer based in New York and Peru, who has been exploring the possibilities in cuisine in this part of the world for the past 15 years in publications such as the New York Times, Fool, Saveur, and many others. He the co-author of the James Beard award nominated Central with Peruvian chef Virgilio Martínez, and the forthcoming books Slippurinn and The Latin American Cookbook.

As devastating as the pandemic has been, it has given us all an opportunity to rebuild the culinary world for the better. Help support new stories and interviews that explore the intersection of food and biodiversity, in the Americas and beyond.

What’s this, how does it work?
Patreon is a micro patronage website to support creators. In human terms, it means
that you can contribute the amount of money you decide each month, and in return you will receive access to exclusive content and other goods. For more info, visit the Patreon FAQ.

What will this money be used the money for?
Most of the food and travel content you see today seems oddly similar for a reason. Nearly every publisher is beholden to algorithms that dictate who sees your page by how many clicks and how controversy you generate. We're not about that. We want share content based on what's important. About the intersection between food, culture, and biodiversity. Your patronage will help fund new stories on and compensate the writers, photographers, recipe developers, and illustrators that help make it what it is.
When will I be charged?
Your membership will be charged the day you sign up. You'll be charged every first of the month after that. So beware! If you join the 24 of July, you'll be charged that day and then 7 days later, the 1st of August. In that case, you might want to wait until earlier in the month to maximize your benefits.

When I will get my rewards?
You’ll get your rewards after you get charged.

Can I cancel or change my Tier?

Yes! At any time, you can change your tier or cancel so there's no pressure if you change your mind. If you cancel or change your membership, the change will be effective only on the 1st of the following month. Patreon does not allow reimbursements.

Where can I find out more about you and your projects?
You can find me on Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and my personal website. You can also subscribe to our mailing list for important updates here.

If after reading this FAQ you still have any doubts about how it works or how to pledge, please send an email to [email protected] and I will help answer your questions.

Thank you for your support!
