You know that feeling you get when you're walking up your basement stairs and it feels like someone, or something, is right behind you? Or maybe the feeling when your toes are hanging off the edge of your bed, and the thought runs through your head that at any moment, something could grab you? I'd be remiss if I didn't mention the feeling that surely everyone has felt at one point or another, the feeling that you're being watched? How would you like to be a part of conjuring those fears?

My name is Nick Botic. I've made it my life's work to instill those feelings into people, and I am here to produce an interactive web series.

The reason I'm on Patreon to implore you to spend your hard-earned money on me is simple: I want to use everything I've learned about horror, everything I've learned about writing, everything I've learned about filmmaking over the last several years, and I want to make a series. I want to use every bit of knowledge that I possess to create a series unlike anything done before.

An example for one of many series I have in mind would chronicle a protagonist and those around him, as his life is slowly but surely injected with unexplained occurrences. I'm sure that sounds all too familiar. I'm as aware as anyone about "found footage fatigue". But this won't be "found" footage. This will be a series that tells the story of someone looking for answers anywhere he can find them, namely, the internet.

This will be an interactive project. Anyone who watches it will be a part of it. Anyone who chooses to participate will guide it. The protagonist will be pleading with anyone who can help for answers. And the viewers will be the ones to provide them. It will be an immersive experience that will span all facets of the internet, and communication and participation in general.

As I briefly stated, the above-mentioned scenario is only one of many. I want to make running storylines that cover all aspects of horror, thriller, suspense, and mystery. I want to do paranormal storylines as well as more grounded scenarios based around the very real, the ever-present threats humans present themselves all too often.

If this sounds even remotely interesting to you, I implore you to read further to learn why you should trust in me to turn your money into something unique.

My dream since childhood has been to write and direct film and television. While I've been writing for, roughly, the last 15 years, it wasn't until just three years ago that I began taking it seriously, that I really found my niche. As a long-time avid horror fan, I began finding myself underwhelmed with the offerings we fans had been receiving in the way of TV and film. I then began browsing the dark cesspool we all know and love to hate, the Internet. There, I found multiple communities dedicated to horror stories. At this point, I hadn't written anything substantial in a few years, so I thought I'd try my hand at a short horror story. To my surprise, the story reached nearly a million people and won several accolades from different online outlets.

It was after not only that small taste of success, but truly, the comments I received on the story that made me want to write full-time. "Thanks, I wasn't planning on sleeping tonight anyways!" "Welp, that's what I get for reading this at 2 am in the dark." "U just gave me my new biggest fear" (all copied and pasted verbatim from different postings of the story).

The thought that I was instilling this fear, this most primal of insecurities into people was intoxicating. I knew the feeling of sitting in the dark watching a brand new horror movie, the anxiety I got when awaiting something to jump out of the shadows that surrounded the poor protagonist, and I realized that THAT is what I want to do with my life. I want to entertain, I want to SCARE.

Since my first story took off, I have started a website (nickbotic.com), and have amassed a few thousand Twitter followers with whom I share my work. When I was a regular contributor, my stories were among the most anticipated and highest-voted on the popular horror-themed subreddit "NoSleep" (to whom I owe everything. Without NoSleep, I never would have realized what I wanted to do with my life. I love you all), and have had my work narrated by some of the most talented voice actors YouTube has to offer. I also self-published a book, an anthology of my earliest work called "The First Collection" (clever, right?), which I will be offering in my rewards, in addition to the eBook novella "A Halloween In Glarus" and a second anthology "An Ode To Terror", also in eBook format (which will also be included in rewards).

This is my passion. I think horror is an undervalued aspect of all cultures, and I think too often it is brushed aside as something that can't or shouldn't be taken seriously, a genre rife with tired tropes and overused cliches. I want to subvert all of the expectations of horror, and work with everyone to build something original.

So please, join me on this quest to scare and be scared, to entertain and be entertained, to work, to create, to tease those things that hide in the shadows and go bump in the night. Join me as I work to build a community of people all embroiled in the same mysteries, working together to solve them.

I sincerely thank you all for your consideration,

Nick Botic

If you are all so kind as to afford us $50 a month to use towards realizing this project, we will be able to host and work with a colleague to build a website dedicated to The Terror Project. My colleague is an experienced web designer, and this amount would go towards covering the initial costs of hosting the domain name and covering any additional features he may need to start building the best website possible.
