About Night Owl Gaming LLC
I am just a simple solo indie game developer, self taught in my spare time and working with 3D assets and Unity for years now as a hobby.
Having grown up in the arcades of yesteryear my love has always been for gaming. Sadly like many I've been forced to get a normal day job to survive.
After so many years of playing games I transitioned to making them as a hobby. I made an animated short film and a few half realized and ultimately abandoned game projects. I learned how to do coding (c#), 3D modelling / sculpting / rigging / animating and other digital arts, but still leaned on assets from others because of time concerns.
I quickly realized how difficult it was to make games solo when you have a full time job. Thus my hobby turned into a career in my dreams. Making this a reality has proved far more difficult. I started by building a large scale game to release to Steam and I finally followed through on that goal:
As it turns out... making a game as a nobody and releasing with no marketing doesn't yield good results.
This led me to free webgames using HTML / WebGL because they are so easy to share and get feedback on. I've always enjoyed webgames and I felt like there was a real lack of 3D graphics in that space. So I put together this game:
It certainly got more attention than my Steam release so I took some time off to reflect on that. I decided that I wanted to find a way to make webgame development work for me and so I challenged myself at the end of 2018 to produce 3 new webgames within a 2 week span:
I had more fun making the webgames than I had with any of my more serious projects and with the increasing attention and my rising quality level I felt like there was some real potential.
So I started this Patreon page to see if making free games was a viable path to success. I'm hoping my games are enjoyable to players and inspiring to other developers.
The plan now is to release at least one free webgame per month throughout 2019.
