Hello precious patreon / complex human / and fellow art lovers!

For those of you who don't know me, I'd like to share a little bit about myself. Five years ago, I was battling with an illusive illness which was eventually diagnosed as Lyme disease. It challenged me to fight for my physical health, face my demons and pick up a paintbrush for the first time in my adult life. Toward the end of my treatment I felt as if I had nothing to lose. The illness emboldened me to make artwork in ways in which I would have not dared to in the past. I began creating with vigor and through trials and many meaningful errors, I found my voice.

My style combines different mediums, subject matters, and techniques. I work in assemblage, flash poetry, painting, and collage in an effort to investigate history, text, and place. Real and imagined. Personal and political. I have come to know art as the manifestation of an internal process. When I make something I am actively exploring issues from media, text, and the constructed environment, especially as it relates to women.

Fast forward to today: My work has been shown in 16 exhibitions and talked about in 15 publications. I've attended one amazing artist residency in Johnson, Vermont and I've had the pleasure of teaching a group of hard headed, seriously talented teenagers for 7 years and counting. 8 months ago, I gave birth to my son Oscar and he colored my entire world. In the beginning, I found myself sneaking away during those early newborn naps to make marks in the studio. In a short time that routine morphed into laying beside him in awe just watching him sleep. I truly believe that when babies are born, parents are too. We are both learning how to navigate in a new world. Scared shitless but totally in love.

It's a challenge to juggle motherhood, being a good partner, teacher, friend, sister, daughter and all around human. It seems that when I'm killin' it in one department the scale tips and I am back to square one. In a effort to find a balance between being a creative, a new mother and help qwell my family's current financial problems -- I created this patreon.

This is where you come in. In exchange for some original (affordable) artwork, your support helps me to spend more time at homewith Oscar. It works like this: you give patreon your credit card number (or paypal) and you’re charged $1 (or more, if you choose) at the end every month. As much as I love being a teacher, my heart is at home. With your help I will be able to do two things I cherish deeply; being a mother and an artist.
