No Proscenium: The Guide to Everything Immersive is made possible by our Patreon backers.

But what is No Proscenium?

It's a podcast, a websitenewsletters, a Slack, and a desert topping. Okay, maybe not the last one. Not yet, anyway.

For four years now NoPro has been the herald of the immersive rennisance. Starting in Los Angeles, and then expanding to New York City and beyond, we've covered immersive theatre, escape rooms, haunts, experimental live action games, virtual reality and whatever else our curators find fascinating.

All of it brought to YOU by our amazing, ever growing community of patrons.

If you're curious about this whole “immersive" thing we're here to help.

BACKER EXCLUSIVE: THE IRREGULAR

While everything we listed above is free and available to the public, Patreon wouldn't be Patreon without some backer exclusives. Which is why we're introducing The Irregular.

This is a Patreon-only podcast feed that's going to be a loose, off-the-cuff, on the fly production. The Irregular will be just that: irregular. When there's breaking news, or we've seen an awesome show, we'll launch a quick episode. A "first draft of history" that can happen at any time.

NO PRO GOES PRO

NoPro is run by a talented team of passionate fans, creators, and curators led by yours truly: Noah Nelson. I'm the idiot in the video up above.

By day I work in public media, wearing a dozen hats for a non-profit organization. By night -- and every other waking hour -- I’m the spider in this immersive web. There’s always an article to edit, a podcast to record, the Facebook group Everything Immersive (which we co-founded with the teams) to admin, and our Slack channel to keep up with.

Somehow I've also managed to work behind the scenes on organizing the immersive theatre creator community (check out LEIA for more info) and co-produced the Immersive Design Summit (which we're bringing back.)

To keep up this crazy pace we HAVE to go pro: and that's where you come in.

We've set a big goal for the year: $6000 a month. Which seems immodest in the extreme.

But this is the reality of media in 2018: a direct relationship between audience and publishers is the only secure path to stability. That number would merely mean we could have ONE full time staff member (um, me) with a travel budget that we could extend to the team as well.

On the way there we've got a lot of fun paths that open up: more VR coverage, meet-ups in cities we've never been to, seminars, and live Town Hall interviews. You can help make all that happen.

OTHER ROADS

Between here and there other opportunities are (hopefully) going to open up -- which will mean we can spread more resources amongst the team.

One of those paths is Consulting, which is offered as a reward at a few of the levels.

PROJECT AND PERSONAL CONSULTING IS AVAILIBLE

I love that people want to pick my brain. That's great. Maker knows I have a lot of ideas and hopefully some of them are good. But if I spent all day giving people advice I'd have to go live in a tree like the sages of yore.

Instead, you can hire me to consult for you. The rates vary based on project and ability to pay. Fair warning: the second you hire me is the second I stop being able to write about you. So if you dreamed of having a Noah Nelson review this path isn't really for you. (Some people have very modest dreams. Me? I dream about train stations.)
If you are interested, email me: [email protected].

To lay it out very clearly:

CONSULTING POLICY RE: REVIEWS

I personally recuse myself from reviewing, or editing the review (beyond style/fact check) of any project I consult on. Any coverage of the project on NoProscenium will be CLEARLY FLAGGED as having a financial relationship. That includes interviews and features. Those would be published as insider views, and then: only if we the editorial board were excited about it. So hiring myself (or any of the others) as a consultant doesn't gaurentee coverage. It actually makes it a little harder! Other NoPro writers may be dispatched to review the show, but we do not guarantee the availibility or the content of a review. (The same is true for any workshop any of our writers are invited to. If our notes went in, the review must be handled by someone else. If someone invites the whole team: well -- no review for you!)

CHRONICLING A RENISSANCE

Immersive work has existed before, even if it wasn't known by that name. Now, after the rise of the Internet as the dominant medium of our lives, the need for experiences that go beyond the screen has been kindled across the globe.

Our job at No Proscenium is to build the stage and the spotlight for the best of this kind of work.

If you've made it this far, we know you think that's a worthy mission, and hope you join us, today.
