reached
A Quarterly Print and Play.
One of our original goals with starting NPC Cast was to allow ourselves the opportunity to make games. If we reach this milestone, we'll be able to create an RPG module or Tabletop game that our listeners can print and play absolutely free! Will they be amazing? Maybe. We'll have to wait and find out!
NPC Cast Mini-Con.
We really want to host a proper gaming event in the Seattle area. If we reach this tier we'll be able to organize a mini-convention complete with panels, open gaming, and a live TPK episode. We'll invite some of our designer friends from around the area to get involved and help legitimize this extravaganza!

What is NPC Cast?
NPC Cast is a weekly podcast about tabletop games. We love games, and our goal is to be positive advocates for the entire hobby. We’re like the opposite of haters. We have the occasional guest, break down games, give advice, take a crack at game designs, and even come up with RPG campaign ideas on the fly! We also take time out to tell you about the things that get us excited, which are numerous.
Well then what the heck is a Patreon?
Patreon is a crowd funding site, similar to a Kickstarter. The main difference is that a Patreon page is tailor made for creatives that do a bunch of small things, while Kickstarter is better suited for somebody doing a single, larger-scale project.
The other big differences are that Patreon pledges are recurring, and they are only paid AFTER content is delivered. Think of it like a future “tip” for us releasing stuff you like.
So basically, I have to pay for NPC Cast now?
No. Ugh, never. Gross.
One of the reasons we feel that Kickstarter doesn’t work as well for podcasts is that it sometimes feels like the content is being held hostage. We love making NPC Cast. We are going to keep making NPC Cast. It will always be free. In fact, you could close this tab right now, forget this page even existed, and still enjoy listening to us talk at you every week as though nothing had changed.
I promise we’ll still love you.
Patreon offers us a platform so that the listeners that would like to support the show even further may do so. Many of our favorite podcasts have a “donate” button, and this is kind of like that.
Didn't you do this whole Patreon thing before?
Yes! We made a Patreon page before, but were unhappy with the reward/milestone goal structure and our ability to deliver those goals to our Patrons. Many of our patrons messaged us letting us know that they simply wanted to support the show and didn't have an issue, but we decided to put the page on hiatus and come back with a more manageable campaign. Because of this, we streamlined the rewards and decided to rid ourselves of physical items and complex give-away stuff. People want to support us, and we greatly appreciate that fact. No need to complicate things.
Why did you make the donations per episode?
When we did our first Patreon, we did it with a "per month" donation structure. On this go round, we felt that it's much easier to understand a "per episode" model. You know exactly what you're paying for. We put out ONE episode of NPC Cast each week, and you will only be charged for that. TPK episodes, or any other bonus content we throw out there will not count.
Fine fine fine. What do I get?
Well, like I said, NPC Cast will continue to be 100% free. We'll continue to put out brand new content every single week no matter what gets pledged. However, even $1 an episode is greatly appreciated!
Beyond that, we are offering some neat individual rewards for those who are able to pledge more, which you can read more about below.
To the left, we'll be adding Milestone Goals as we receive more donations. These goals affect everyone because if they are reached we'll be able to do some pretty ambitious things and everybody gets to benefit, regardless of pledges! (Except the people that hate us. There is no tangible benefit to those people.)
In closing: Pledge if you want, tell a friend if you can, and as always - support your local game store.
If there is anything else you would like to know, feel free to email us at [email protected] or just ask via Twitter: @npccast
Best Regards,
Chris
