At this goal, I will start a video tutorial channel on YouTube where once a month I give tips on making comics the Japanese way, discussing tools in detail and showing videos of my process. How to design characters, story treatments, layouts, etc will all be covered in a series of videos available to everyone whether they pledge on Patreon or not.

Comic Page Increase
$800 per month

If this goal is met, I will be able to speed up my process from two pages to three pages a week. I will still only post two pages a week on my website, but pledgers of the $5 tiers will be able to see three pages a week, which will mean they will finish chapters and start new ones way before the public can.

Full-Time Job
$1,000 per month

At this rate, I will be able to consider FaLLEN a full-time job and increase my page rate to four pages a week. Once a chapter is finished, I will put the chapters together in a format that can be read by everyone who pledges, regardless of tier. The $5 tier will still have the advantage as they will see pages before a chapter is finished and will instead see 4 pages a week while the public and other tiers only see 2 a week. I will also spend $100 of these pledged dollars a month on advertising for FaLLEN to help get the word out about this comic (and this Patreon!).

Convention Time
$3,000 per month

At this goal, I will attend at least one convention in an English-speaking country within the year... and will dress as one of my own characters for at least one day. The location will be up for voting by all pledgers. All pledgers will also receive a desktop wallpaper in the form of a calendar each month featuring color artwork of the FaLLEN characters.

More Conventions, More Colors
$5,000 per month

Instead of one convention, I will now attend three conventions in English-speaking parts of the world a year as voted upon by pledgers, where pledgers can join me for dinner to discuss anime and manga or FaLLEN. I will again dress in character for at least one day or a panel I host, which can now be voted on by pledgers. In addition to this embarrassing milestone, I will do a color version of any FaLLEn page, once a month, which will be selected by readers. This color page will be viewable to patrons only and not uploaded in full to any other website.

My name is Ogawa Burukku, artist and author of the webcomic FaLLEN. I studied comicking in both America and Japan and currently live in a town called Matsuyama on the island of Shikoku in Japan. I've worked with publishers and studios as an assistant, storyboard artist, illustrator, and translator, but my real passion is making my own comics. But enough about me, I'm pretty boring.

The purpose of this Patreon is to help fund the creation of new pages for FaLLEN, which is a labor of love that unfortunately costs me some serious yen just to keep going. As evident by the thumbnails above, I am old school and use traditional mediums to do my comic pages, and art supplies (particularly screen tone) is pretty costly.

After my Kickstarter in November, 2014 and with the closing of my sponsor Inkblazers one month later, I was encouraged by many readers to make a Patreon campaign to keep the comic alive. So here it is! I'm keeping the cost of tiers pretty low and emphasizing bigger rewards with milestones, but for very little pledged people can get behind-the-scenes information, WIPs, and have sneak peeks at upcoming pages. Merely a tip jar, this is for people who enjoy the comic FaLLEN or want to support the author. Once milestones have been reached, those milestone goal rewards may be made available to $1 pledgers as well.

At $5 a month, you will receive access to a production blog that will show scans of rough pages, photos showing pages during inking or toning stages, scans of thumbnails, etc. I will also post lineart to colored covers and show artwork I use for prints of the Japanese comic that don't usually get uploaded online. Will update at most a few times a week, at least a couple of times a month, depending on what projects I'm working on at the time. 

Once a milestone goal is reached, there will be more rewards made available to all tiers.

  • Access To Scripts - Whenever I start a new chapter, you will now know what happens before it happens. I will post my actual scripts to the Patreon page, including my dumb notes to myself (ex: "and draw Sam with a super smexy face like omg")

  • New Years Postcard - You will go on a list of people who will receive a New Years postcard featuring FaLLEN characters with a Chinese zodiac theme. This postcard is only available to Patreon pledgers, and you have to be in this tier for at least 3 months before and up to the point when I start drawing these suckers.

  • Con Video Blogs - Whenever I go to a con, from now on I will be making video blogs. Talking to other artists and creators, showcasing the artist alleys, and giving my own sassy commentary on hotels, etc.

  • Process Videos - I will start making quick videos of me actually making the pages. These will be short, sometimes time-lapse videos, but will briefly show how I make my traditional comic pages. Will do the same for color illustrations for FaLLEN.

  • Art Input - You will now join a group discussion on what will go into future covers, front pages, and mini comics. Your suggestion could become the final product! The group discussion will take place over a livestream, so I can sketch ideas as they come.

  • Sketchcards - Once a month, I will draw a colored sketchcard of anything you want, FaLLEN or otherwise. After I have drawn 5 sketchcards you will receive them in the mail. Before then, you will have a digital scan sent to you. Each sketchcard will be signed and dated!

  • Early Novel Access - Once a month, I will post revised chapters from the FaLLEN novel for patrons of this tier and higher. These are the revised versions that will be exactly what are going into the novelized version of FaLLEN, so you will have access to them before they see print! Input is also welcome and your feedback could impact the finished book!

  • Customized Color Artwork - You tell me what to draw and I will do it! Once a month I will have a group discussion for patrons at this level, where as a group you will choose what character from FaLLEN I draw and what the theme, pose, etc will be. So if you have a favorite character who doesn't get enough love, this is a good way to get me to draw more of that character. This will be another livestream discussion, usually at the end of the month. For FaLLEN characters only!

  • Sketch Requests - Once a month I will do a sketch (rough pencils) of anything you want! This is personalized, not a group discussion.

  • Patreon T-Shirt - If you are subscribed for six months, you will receive a special FaLLEN T-Shirt for Patrons only that says "I support magical girls iron maidens!" and features the logo on front and the girls' silhouettes on the back. Relatively simple design.

  • Gift Art For You - Once a month I will draw a full-color commission of anything you want. Not limited to FaLLEN characters, includes 18+ situations (though you must also be 18+ for those requests!). You may also opt for a traditional inked and toned image on manga paper, which while in black and white would mean that you would actually receive a physical copy of the artwork.
