This Patreon is about going on an adventure.

Would you believe that I’ve been publishing and running adventures for OpenQuest- a straightforward D100 roleplaying game- for almost a decade?

This Patreon is all about what fans of the system have been asking for, a constant stream of adventures for the game.

These will be written by me, but if we get enough backers, I will be able to pay other authors. This Patreon is to provide that little extra push I need to put out an adventure every 1-2 months. Each adventure will be between 10 and 20 A4 pages long, with art and maps, which this Patreon will pay for.

Thank you for your time in reading this.

Current focus

While I’m currently preparing to release a 10th Anniversary OpenQuest 3rd Edition (ideally on the anniversary of its original release in September),  patreons of Adventurer and up will get access to playtest versions of the rules. I want to keep the flow of adventures up and coming. Each time I release a playtest version of the rules, it will be with an adventure. Consider the playtest versions a bonus. When the Kickstarter goes live, patreons will get a special discounted backers’ level as a thank you.

Going forward after the 3rd Edition Kickstarter, this Patreon will continue to operate to provide more adventures for the game, removing the start-up risks of committing myself to this work.
The adventures released during this period will be introductory in nature, easy enough for novice referees and players to quickly grasp, yet with enough depth and twists to keep veteran D100 fans entertained.

What’s incoming?
The Road Less Travelled. An updated version of this introductory adventure, which was last seen in OpenQuest 2 Deluxe, along with the 1st Play Test version of OQ3.

The Last Retreat. A new adventure, where bandits strike an isolated village, and the player characters are sent to root them out of the hole they are hiding in.

Carborundum in Cryptam (Rats in the Cellar)
In a sleepy out of the way village full of eccentric retired masters, trouble stirs in the cellars.

Paul Mitchener (Crucible of the Dragons, Age of Arthur, Liminal) is already signed up to do an updated version of “Non Semper Erit Aestas”, his adventure set in the Roman Empire just after the death of Nero. A quick adventure to tie in with the Clockwork Palace min-setting is also planned.

More about OpenQuest
OpenQuest is a straightforward Fantasy D100 roleplaying game. It uses a simple percentage-based system, where a D% dice is rolled versus a percentile skill to determine success. Characters don’t have classes. Instead, they progress in the areas, such as skills and magic, that the player wants to go. Membership of organisations such as cults and guilds is also important, and advancement in their ranks opens up advantages both mundane and magical.

You can check OpenQuest out in its free Basic edition,

The main game is a 262-page rule book, and there are three adventure modules of 90-120 pages. There is also two spin-off games using the ruleset. A sci-fi game called River of Heaven and a game of Modern Warfare called The Company. Because the text of OpenQuest is Open Gaming Content in its entirety, it’s spawned not only translations (in French, Portuguese) but also is the basis of other games such as Clockwork and Chivalry and the Renaissance line of games by Cakebread and Walton, and Age of Shadows by Crooked Staff Productions.

OpenQuest is broadly compatible with other D100/D% games, so you can use the adventures with minimal tweaking with those systems.

He also has a patreon of his own, producing fantastic illustrative maps designed to be used for tabletop games with minitures.
