Opera in Focus is creating fully-staged miniature grand operas . . . with puppets!

William B. Fosser's Puppet Production Opera in Focus has been a Chicago institution for over 60 years.  We present fully-staged scenes from well-known operas, operettas, and musicals performed by some of the world's most lifelike puppets at our theatre, a miniature opera house in Rolling Meadows, Illinois (our home for the past 24 years).  Our theatre's founder—award-winning motion picture set designer and legendary puppeteer Bill Fosser—invented and patented the unique mechanism used to manipulate our puppets back in the '50s.  We are the only people in the world who make and use this particular type of puppet.  Due to their sophisticated construction, each puppet costs about $1,000 to craft from start to finish.  The cost of building new productions can cost anywhere from $2,000 to $10,000 depending on the number of puppets, costumes, sets, and props we need to build.

Due to the substantial cost involved in maintaining the theatre and our commitment to adding to our active repertoire by building new productions each year, all of our puppeteers are forced to work full-time "day jobs" in order to fund this endeavor.  This, in turn, means we have little time to devote to our true passion: entertaining audiences of all ages at the puppet opera and building new productions.  It is our hope that, with additional support from our patrons and fans from around the world, some of the financial burdens of keeping this unique art form alive will be diminished and we can get back to focusing on our craft.

For more information about the history of puppet opera in Chicago (our lineage traces directly back  to Ernest Wolff who created the original Chicago Miniature Grand Opera in Chicago over 80 years ago), you can visit our official website at: http://www.operainfocus.com

Opera in Focus has been featured on ABC, NBC, CBS, WGN, PBS, WTTW, and Fox's acclaimed cable program "Strange Inheritance".  In 2005, Bill Fosser was awarded the prestigious President's Award from the Puppeteers of America for his outstanding lifetime contributions to the art of puppetry.  We are also the recipients of the distinguished Dorothy Mullen Arts and Humanities Award.
