About OPIRG Toronto

The Ontario Public Interest Research Group is a volunteer-based social and environmental justice group in Toronto, with a mandate for action, education, and research on environmental and social justice issues. We are part of an provincial network of Public Interest Research Groups (PIRGs), including eleven others in Ontario.

We are an anti-oppressive and intersectional feminist organization directed by community members, Undergrad and Grad students at UofT. We seek to empower and educate students and other members of the community, provide a forum for learning and sharing skills, and give people the tools and opportunity to work cooperatively for social change. We do this by providing workshops, publishing opportunities, social and environmental justice advocacy, educational based events such as panels and round tables, research opportunities and through supporting autonomous action groups like Mining Injustice Solidarity Network and LEAP UofT.

You can find a full list of our action groups here:  http://www.opirgtoronto.org/current-action-groups/

OPIRG Toronto also supports a community resource centre and library with the Centre for Women and Trans People, a grassroots online and print publication called Action Speaks Louder, a non-hierarchical community driven research collective named the Toronto Research Action and Community eXchange, and a free market offering free gently used clothing, kitchenware, books, electronics and basic necessities for low income and underhoused community members
