O R G Y S M I C is a blog all about SEX! But it's not just simply about what Germans call "the most beautiful side issue in the world." (Oooooh, those horny Germans, I could write books about them.) Rather this blog is all about the science behind sex.

"Science?", you may ask sceptically, "is this going to be a blog that reduces sex to numbers and figures and boring biochemical descriptions?"

Most certainly not, dear reader. This blog is mostly written by social scientists fascinated by human sexualities. And we will surely respect all the qualities that most of us love so much about sex: This blog is taboo . . . erotic . . . daring . . . thought-provoking . . . sexy . . . smart . . . hot . . . stimulatingly 'forbidden' . . . clever . . . and most sinful  O R G Y S M I C.

My articles, as well as those written by my guest authors, are mostly influenced by sociology, sexology, (social) psychology, anthropology, cultural studies, gender, postcolonial, or queer studies. Within these sciences, some of us might be existentialists (rejecting fixed identities like "straight" or "gay"), some of us post-structuralists (rejecting the idea of a universal "truth"), some might rather adhere to the Frankfurt School and critical theory (analysing capitalism and the human psyche). But we all share the love for exploring probably the biggest taboo of the Western human's existence. We are all sex-positive!

Apart from our sex-positivity, we are also #MeToo, we are feminists: We believe in the equality of all genders, and we strive to challenge patriarchal norms, behaviours, and beliefs that make not only women suffer, but due to toxic masculinity also most men, as well as all those that don't fall into the male-female-binary.

We are also #MeTwo and we try to integrate a decolonizing perspective into our work and writings. We try to become more aware of possible white or Western biases, or those of the Global North. Additionally, we aim to have an intersectional approach to our analyses and incorporate the voices of POC whenever we can.

And finally, we are #MeQueer! We seek to question the categories and assumptions on which current heteronormative popular, academic, public, or institutionalized understandings are based. And we try to not only look at straight, cisgendered sex, but at all forms of human sexualities. And yes, even our asexual friends are welcome here!

O R G Y S M I C' S MISSION
ORGYSMIC wants to educate people about the science behind human sexualities, promote sexual health and help to create a world where no one needs to suffer from discrimination or oppression based on gender or sexuality, but also based on race, ability, age, religion, class, or any other arbitrary category.

We believe in the sayings of the world's first sexual scientist Magnus Hirschfeld: Per scientiam ad justitiam – Trough Science to Justice! Our vision is a world where based on education and compassion (A) sexual health is increased (fighting both HIV and other STIs as well as promoting psychological and cultural sexual health), (B) discrimination and stigmatization based on sexual preferences, behaviours, phantasies, prejudices or identities are eliminated (stopping e.g. serophobia, homophobia, bi- & panphobia, kink-shaming, poly-shaming, body-shaming, slut-shaming, the pathologization of asexuality, sexual harassment, the stigma of sex work, the stigma of the sexualities of the elderly or of people with disabilities, or the sexualization of women*, POC, Muslims, and other people), and (C) sexual liberty and freedom are defended (fighting taboos and discriminating or stigmatizing laws, and giving everyone the right to their own sexualities and sovereignty of their bodies).

Last but not least ORGYSMIC strives to be a coalition to create a more just world free from oppression and suffering. Rather than our differences, we – LGBTIP2SAs, queers, feminists, sex workers, polys, kinksters, and POC – want to focus on what we all have in common and support each other in a joint fight for equality and diversity.

If you share this vision with us then please consider becoming a Patron for ORGYSMIC.

WHO RUNS THIS BLOG?
My name is Jeff. I am a sociologist born 1989 in Luxembourg and living in Berlin, Germany since 2014. Moving to Berlin has truly changed my mind. The city, that is often referred to as "the most sexual city on Earth", has offered me so much to think about that most of my articles on here were inspired by what I experienced in the German capital.

My interest in human sexualities began, however, after my coming-out when I was 16 years old. I wanted to understand human sexuality. And I wanted to use that knowledge to help create a better world. I started downloading and printing hundreds of pages from university classes about sex that I devoured reading for hours in bed.

Later on, I went to study psychology but then changed to sociology and gender studies. I focussed my studies on sexuality, queer theories, postcolonial theories, and critical human-animal studies. I also worked for several years for a social psychological NGO about social justice which deeply influenced me in my thinking. And I volunteered for several years for the German AIDS Service Organization. My experiences during those years laid the foundation for this blog.

WHAT ELSE DOES  O R G Y S M I C  OFFER?
Apart from the blog – which I properly launch in January 2019 – I am also planning to start podcasts with a friend later in 2019. As a trained sociologist and experienced speaker I will also give talks about sex starting in late 2019. Additionally, to the articles, talks, and podcasts I plan to start a video series with a drag queen titled "Dr Dame Explains Sex". These short videos will be designed to explain and educate about human sexualities in a hilariously funny and easy way.

Finally, if you live in Berlin or plan to visit, I would be happy to welcome you to Berlin's History of Sex. In this very unique guided tour, kindly supported by the Federal Foundation Magnus Hirschfeld, I dive deep into the history of sex and sexual science in Berlin. You'll learn things about Berlin and about human sexualities you would never in your wildest dreams have thought possible. So feel free to be my guest!

So long, dear Patrons, I hope you'll enjoy my work! Feel free to get in touch with me at [email protected].

Jeff
