If you're a fan of Japanese folklore, you may know me as the yokai guy: author and illustrator of The Night Parade of One Hundred DemonsThe Hour of Meeting Evil Spirits, and The Book of the Hakutaku. And you may know me from yokai.com or A-Yokai-A-Day in which I post a new yokai every day during the month of October.

I have used crowdfunding in the past to launch a couple of large book projects (on Kickstarter in 20112013, and 2017). They were pretty successful and a lot of fun. My favorite thing about these projects was the constant communication with backers, sharing new yokai with them and giving weekly updates on my newest creations.

The purpose of this Patreon is to continue working on yokai at a more steady pace. Instead of releasing 100+ illustrations all at once in a large book, I would like to create a steady stream of yokai illustrations and add them to yokai.com as they are created. I create between 2-4 new yokai per month, and of course continue the tradition of A-Yokai-A-Day during October.

I also want to give fans a place where they can request their favorite yokai, or join in on the discussion, or just see a little bit of what goes on behind-the-scenes in my creation process that doesn't normally get shown in the final product.

If you enjoy learning about Japanese folklore, then please consider becoming my patron. Patreon supports me both financially, by allowing me to create full time, and creatively, by connecting me with an active audience. Sharing my work with you is the most fulfilling part of being an artist.

All of the yokai I create will be made freely available on the internet. And no matter how many patrons I have, I will still be creating yokai anyway. You can cancel your pledge at any time, so there is no pressure to continue if you decide you don't want to support me any more. But your patronage means a lot to me, and makes it possible for me to do much more than I would be able to do without it!

Clickable Map of Japan
Wouldn't it be cool to click on a map of your prefecture and see the yokai that are found there? Building this will take a lot of work, not just in making the map itself, but in going through and updating all of the existing yokai to make sure that they are properly linked up with each prefecture. Think of it as a visual version of the Yokai Finder.
