Hello!

My name is Lhu Wen Kai, and I'm an 18-year-old multimedia artist that's currently based in Singapore.

What am I doing?
Ever since 2015's General Elections, I've been creating videos that criticise and poke fun of our (ridiculously elitist and overpaid) government. Whether it's through satire, spoken word poems, raps or parodies, I see my videos as a way of informing the public about the shortcomings of our politicians in an entertaining fashion.

They're meant to be light-hearted and not intentionally provocative or offensive. I try to produce my videos in a different format each time to keep things fresh, and so far, the topics I've covered includes the elite's dismissive view of the 99%, the government's elitist and racist comments, their hypocritical actions and remarks, and the farce that is Singapore politics.

I have already written and planned for a number of videos in 2017, and they will touch on a multitude of topics besides the government per se. There will be more rap videos/parodies, and in line with my goal of having a different concept each time, there'll also be content with unique styles not 'used' in my previous works.

I am also interested in producing more Mandarin-based content as I find that language more enjoyable to work with. It'll allow me to not only target overseas markets, but also the elderly (extremely vital demographic) as well since most of them aren't well-versed in English.

However, with all that being said, the increasing financial cost of such projects will prove to be a massive stumbling block eventually, which is why I need your help, here on Patreon.

Why am I on Patreon? What is this "Patreon" anyway?
Patreon is a place for creatives (artists, musicians, writers, filmmakers etc.) to raise funds for their works. It also opens up an avenue for fans to contribute financially to aid their favorite acts in future projects!

The reason why I decided to use Patreon is this:

The Singapore Facebook community is rife with people shamelessly ripping the videos of others and reposting them to their own page for likes, a.k.a., "freebooting". I figured given the rampant and blatant disregard of copyright infringement in our country, I'd directly upload my videos on Facebook natively, and build my audience around that platform.

However, Facebook do not have an advertising programme in place like YouTube.  None of my videos are making any money despite getting hundreds and thousands of views. I cannot reinvest my 'success' in future content, and they're currently paid for by my royalty payments and freelance jobs.

On average, I spend at least 50 hours on each video, from the planning, to the producing (hiring all the necessary talents/singers/artists/composers), to the filming (each session ~3-5 hours), all the way till the editing (incl. sound mixing, design, and mastering). I put in extra effort to ensure the production quality is maximised despite a shoestring budget, and with your contribution, it'll help massively with lightening the financial burden.

I want to increase the frequency of my videos and devote more time towards them, but without a stable stream of money, it'll be a real challenge.

Okay, you want our money... What do we get in return?
You can contribute one of three base amounts ($1, $5, and $12) and receive the respective perks listed below.

(p.s. Do note that you are free to contribute ANY amount ($2, $20, $60 etc.) - Patreon will prompt you to key in the exact amount when you are selecting your perks.)

NOTE: All rewards will be shipped out after the first payment.

If you have any ideas for a perk, please get in touch with me immediately!
The perks right now are rather basic as it is geared towards the lowest common denominator, so once I get a better idea of who's interested, I'll be able to adjust them accordingly!

Likewise, feel free to let me know what kinds of content you'd are looking forward to, or the issues you are passionate about and want me to raise.

My videos is and always will be free, but with a small tip from you, I'd be able to shift my focus away from scrambling for funds, and instead, focus on producing the content itself. Some kind folks have also been asking me if there's a way to contribute to my efforts - if you truly believe in the cause and enjoy what I do, do consider contributing and helping me fight the good fight! Every dollar goes a long way.

(IMPORTANT: You will be billed ONLY when I release a new video. This is not a monthly subscription in any form - so, if I release a video once a year, you'd only be charged once a year.)
