Focus Patrons

$5
per month
In our experience, when everyday people get involved in policy at the granular level, we end up with better ideas and bigger impact. Focus patrons have early access to the work we produce -- policy papers, summaries, testimony, and model legal language.

Axis Patrons

$25
per month
We are frequently sought out during critical decision-making periods, but it's hard to be available at a moment's notice without support. Axis patrons play a special role by allowing us to do more of the impactful policy work we are already doing.

Directrix Patrons

The movement has already done the hard work of changing minds and creating political will that is growing every day. Directrix patrons support us using specialized expertise and legal skills to help people create cannabis policy they actually want. (Note: if you want to record the phone call as a podcast, that is okay with us!)

About Parabola Center

The Parabola Center is a project by Shaleen Title and Richard Juang. We started this project when we noticed that parts of the debate about federal marijuana legalization are leaving behind the mass movement that made legalization possible. As the conversation has shifted from whether to legalize to how - and who should profit - the people in the conversations has shifted too. Many of the most crucial policy details appear to be led by organizations backed by corporations who have a lot more money than they do expertise or credibility on the subject.

Because of our backgrounds, we are frequently and proactively sought out by policymakers who want to write policies for people, not corporations. We are crowdfunding to support our work developing and communicating that kind of people-focused policy and equipping others to do the same. It's a myth that everyday people don't care about policy details -- in our experience, the more people get involved, the better the policy. We've spent a combined 20+ years learning cannabis policy, working on campaigns, practicing law, and serving the public, and we'd rather use that experience to benefit everyday people over rich clients.

Check out our first project, a MORE Act rewrite. Federal regulation to slow down interstate commerce may not be the most sparkling and attention-grabbing subject for us to begin with, but that's why we chose it. It's the most important thing that no one is talking about. It's significant, complicated, intimidating, and hard to unwind -- exactly the type of subject that tends to be ignored until it's too late.

We know what the legalization we all want looks like. Now we need to join together and do the hard work ourselves, because no one is going to do it for us.

Please note: We have chosen not to accept and will refund pledges from multistate cannabis corporations (or Big Tobacco), as we do not believe that our values align. Beyond that, if you don't share our values, don't become a patron. If you are a cannabis corporation of any size that has sued to undermine equity programs, testified against benefits for equity or economic empowerment businesses, or done something racist, don't become a patron of ours to cover yourself. We don't want your money and will return it.
