Katie West I used Adobe Premiere because I already pay for Adobe Creative Cloud. Is there really that much difference?

Richard Warfield Jr Great idea, will try to join regardless of what time it is. Perhaps a straw poll or something and for a given week people can chime in on what works best. If I can be greedy, after 9pm ET

Marc Johanssen Seems, as of late, the platform to do this with would be Blab.im

Merrick Monroe WAAAAAAAH I can't believe I missed the backing period on this! Guess I forgot to set a reminder like I usually do for projects. :((( At the least, I do what I can to make sure it's well stocked in my shop!

G I've always gone back to John Berger's views on art and photography when I find my own knowledge or judgement lacking. His book "About Looking" is a fantastic read, a real game changer for me. He understands why we look and as a result is able to explain the difference between a powerful image and one that is just 'meh". Katie, I think what you do is not about being a great photographer. I think you are great at manipulating the relationship between yourself and the viewer, an artist in the act of seeing. The only other artist who uses photographic self portraiture as effectively as you is Natacha Merritt, in my experience. You create intimacy, tell a story, bare yourself both physically and emotionally to the viewer, and thus your images are beautiful and powerful. It certainly doesn't hurt that you are also: Drop. Dead. Gorgeous. :) -G

Emma Dilemma My biggest hang up with what makes someone an artist/photographer has always been equipment. I mean, I've been taking pictures of myself since camera phones were created (and apparently before - I just found an album of pictures I took when I was like 10 and there are some pretty hilariously awesome ones), but my phone was for a really long time my source of photos. Then in high school, I got real cameras - incredibly nice cameras, but I never could really get the hang of all the fancy features - and now my digital one is broken anyways so it only works 8% of the time. So here I am again, taking photos of myself with my phone. Is that photography? Am I a photographer? I have no idea. But it's what I do. (And I usually take at LEAST 20-30 photos).

Gary Chapple It varies a lot. It's rarer to do the 3/300 having had more practice, but sometimes there's no way you can see the actual results until you get something home (especially when working with a macro lens) - the preview doesn't really show you what you've got. Sometimes i have the opposite problem - like 3 good photos of the same thing, and i can't figure out which to choose. A lot of the time, i get something i wasn't expecting when i took the shot, and that can work both ways - it can either ruin the shot (sometimes my brain ignores shadows), or make it even better. I don't think there's a rule - just shoot.

Chris Wichtendahl It's a tough spot to be in, I know. I hope you find something soon, or, barring that, make peace with not having found something yet.
