Patricia Worby

is creating a radical new approach to health and wellbeing
Hi I'm Patricia Worby, PhD (technically Dr. but not medical!) and I'm an author, lecturer and therapist in the field of mindbody healing.

In 2015 I wrote my first book The Scar that won't Heal. My thesis (developed by working as a therapist in emotional healing and as a University scientific health researcher) was that what happens in childhood dictates the rest of your life. I had no idea this was called Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) til 2 years later but I had noticed that a lot of the people with Chronic Pain and Fatigue Syndromes (CFS/Fibromyalgia) had a history of trauma so it seemed to be a worthwhile theory to explore. What I found blew my mind!

I found that trauma is common and it affects everyone to some extent although those with chronic relational trauma (complex PTSD) seem to fare worst. The book, and the PhD that preceded it changed my life. Prior to that I was treating people with chronic pain with bodywork which would help for a short while but pain always returned. After finding out about ACE-aware trauma healing, I could understand:

  1. why I was the way I was and why I'm drawn to healing work
  2. why pain and dysfunction is related to unresolved emotional trauma and how you can heal it
  3. how I can educate and share this information to help others heal and extend their healthspan (i.e. not just living longer but living better)

The book was my turning point, I self-published in October 2015 (and recently updated in 2018) via Amazon imprint createspace (now kdp). The first chapter became my story because I wanted people to realise that even those of us with ordinary ('normally dysfunctional') childhoods can end up with trauma. I called it The Scar that Won't Heal, because with trauma, unlike most memories time does not heal. I am pleased to say, despite this difficult subject matter, and my solo promotion, it has sold steadily and was even recommended by author William Bloom in his Psycho-spiritual training course. I have been astounded by the warmth of its reception, and know that the time I spent on it was worth it.

In 2017 I followed this up with a book on the microbiome (the trillions of microbes that live in and on us) The World Within. Learning that we are a community of organisms not an individual 'I' was a big change in awareness for me. I wanted to share that knowledge and issue a wake up call to everyone that they need to take as much care of their 'inner garden' as we should take care of our outer environment (and the fact that we are destroying both is no co-incidence).

Fast forward to 2018 and I decided to record an audio version of The Scar that Won't Heal, little knowing what that would involve. I have done some radio work in the past so was fairly confident my voice was ok. But I had no idea at all how long it would take or the difficulties in mastering audio narration. I and a local sound engineer toiled all of last year (2018) to get it recorded (it's over 93,000 words!) There were a lot of problems with my technique and the equipment (2018 was a really hot summer and it fouled up some of the electronics). We started 2019 with all of it recorded but some editing issues. Due to our inexperience I've still got to do some edits to do and have had to employ another sound editor to complete this for Audible upload (they have stringent requirements). This has been incredibly expensive - notwithstanding my time - I estimate about 300 hours so far.. there is now extra expense to get this mastered and of course until I get the book up on Audible, no sales. STOP PRESS - now up on Audible here - but I still need your help with funds for the promotion and dissemination. Plus I have plans to set up a masterclass on the information contained in the book for those struggling to read it all (a session per chapter). It's like a book club / workshop. See my facebook page for details.

Meanwhile I am currently writing a new book 'Losing our Minds' about a metabolic view of ageing and the diseases of ageing (Alzheimer's and Cancer) is nearly complete. I hope to publish by June 2019 - very soon!! STOP PRESS it's out now on amazon here.

I have turned my life around by knowing this information and combining my scientific background (biochemist/nutritionist) with my new-found naturopathic (natural medicine) understanding. It is a unique combination which makes me at ease talking to both the scientific establishment and the holistic world of therapy. I've been invited as a speaker at various conferences and Q&A panels and I now know this is my calling to spread the message that conventional pharmacological medicine makes people sicker not better. A great business model for them but terrible for the health and wealth of our nation(s).

I did not come to this viewpoint easily. My own Chronic Fatigue related illness in 1998 - 2000 taught me that modern medicine had little to offer but symptom management and I was forced to look elsewhere for answers. What I learned then was that pharmacology can only manage symptoms and rarely offers solutions because it ignores the the importance of the life that person has lived (the unconscious stressors, beliefs, conflicts and their epigenetic effects). This is termed the Bio-psycho-social view of health and it's a radical departure from the current medical model.

After a 25 year career in the UK National Health Service (NHS) and as a University research scientist, I made the difficult decision to resign my post in 2016 so that I could concentrate on spreading the message of mind-body healing via my blog and YouTube channel. I found a receptive audience but it's not enough and I'm inundated with work. It's time to help more people than I can possibly reach with 1-2-1 therapy  work. I am certain that online is the way to go so am looking for some support to complete my audio book (frst one now complete) and build this online network of healing and hope and a return to wholeness. This is our birthright.

I recently completed writing and presenting an online training course on Adverse Childhood Experience and Trauma-informed practice with CFS specialists Chrysalis Effect Health which is so exciting and has given me the idea about how to progress from therapist to professional trainer /educator. It means taking risks and putting myself on the line financially, and spiritually as I am naturally shy and not a self-publicist but I know it will be worth it.

My aim is to:
  • Educate: the public and medical community to know more about health and healing rather than pharmaceutical medicine so that they are empowered to heal themselves using natural  medicine; nutrition, naturopathy, emotional healing.
  • Advocate: new treatments based on solid science and what works in practice. The science actually supports this view of health but it is suppressed as it doesn't make money for the powerful corporations.
  • Collaborate - create a network of like-minded health seekers who wish to share my dream of creating a healing network and potentially in future a physical healing centre of powerful connection.
If you help me to do this by sponsoring me, once I have finished this audiobook I can record more videos/podcasts, record the other books as audiobooks, do more teaching and ultimately create an online network dedicated to healing more people. Everyone can heal their past with the right information and tools. Help me keep the dream of healing alive and get the inside scoop on natural health and wellbeing.
