Hey, my name is Paul Blest, I'm a journalist based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Over the past few years, I've written and reported on a whole bunch of things, including national, state, and local politics, education, labor, criminal justice reform, music, food, and sports. In the last year, I've written about the Moral March on Raleigh, a fatal police shooting in Raleighlabor violations at a state senator's farm, how companies who vocally opposed HB 2 provided financial backing for the legislators and governor who passed itschool vouchers, the need to organize the lefta retrospective on HB 2Jeremy Corbyn, and a bread symposium.

Right now I'm freelancing full-time, which is fulfilling but a little unstable. Your funding helps with the cost of investigating, including the cost of requesting documents through the Freedom of Information Act and PACER, travel if I'm going after a story on spec, and, of course, helping me to pay my bills if freelancing is tight.

In return, I'm going to post a weekly round-up of things on the internet I've written and I like, and direct you to things worth paying attention to, and if I self-publish something, direct people to a list of supporters (including you) who made it possible. I also have ideas for a website, a short weekly podcast and some other stuff in the future, and I'm always down to take story ideas and pitches for features and things I should be working on.

Things are terrible right now, and there's a lot of worthy causes you could spend your money on. But if you like the stuff I've done in the past and want to see more of it, it's much appreciated if you kick a few bucks my way.

Goals
$131 of $750 per month
When I reach $750 per month, I'll do a twice-monthly roundup of things people should be paying attention to in state legislatures and politics around the country. Everything we're seeing at the federal level has been done at the state-level; this would be a place and a feature dedicated to shedding some light on that.
