    About Pawikan Project

Pawikan Project is a marine conservation initiative of The Mead Foundation & Sundowners Zambales. Before launching on October of 2020, despite the effects of the pandemic, we have already been dedicating a massive amount of time working with like-minded organizations and government units to make Pawikan Project happen. Come November, our finished hatchery is already a 'home' to 4 nests with a sum of 359 eggs, and the numbers are only increasing

Zambales is one of the 4 main nesting spots in the Philippines and its vast 200km coast has been declared a marine conservation zone. 5/7 sea turtle species in the world can be found here; all the more reason we strive to keep these facts alive. Yet, with poaching still rampant, added with climate change, & natural threats, the very existence of our Pawikans are at stake. All sea turtle species have already been declared endangered with the 'Hawksbill Turtle' (also found in Zambales), declared critical.

Now, the Pawikan nesting season has come and we're acting fast on training our Rangers (at  which whom are previous poachers), improving our hatchery & building more, adding data to global research -- giving our dear Pawikans continual fighting chances.

Join our journey to learning & caring for our Pawikans and let everybody else know of their wonders!

    Yours truly,
    Pawikan Project
