About Pearl Pirie

I have made poetry chapbooks since childhood and published poems since 1995. Since 2001 I have written poetry full time. I have had published 4 full poetry collections, 26 single-author chapbooks, a few collaborative ones, and a few broadsides. A few have won awards.

I have 3 poetry collections submitted out (June 2022), and grants received from the Canada Council and from CALQ in 2021 and 2022.

One manuscript is about my mother, and her life. One of my manuscripts is haiku, another an ecopoetics of flourishing in resiliency. One surreal. One minimalist. One love poems. One haibun to my father. One autobiography in a more narrative style than my usual. One fragments made into 3 long poems.

I have more collections I hope close to completion in 2023, as well as a novel. (Estimated completion 2024 or 2025?)

I live with post-concussive syndrome and a revolving door or health wonkiness. I have functional days, and non-functional days. It takes more cognitive load to write than it used to, but I am still able to produce and edit. It all just takes longer.

Like most of us, this pandemic and loss of family members over the past few years have made me feel the shortness of life more keenly. Knowing I have an eye disorder that will lead to eventual blindness and a wonky body makes time press.

It would be encouraging to not be so dependant on my husband's income but contribute more to the household. Perhaps Three Guineas by Virginia Woolf has brought that even more keenly home. Universal Basic Income would be great but we haven't got it yet.

I have made a poetry and poetics blog for over 16 years, doing book and event summaries. I have rarely applied for funding but occasionally teach poetry courses.

For 11 years I have run a small press putting out over 4 dozen titles of 84 poets. I have an instagram www.instagram.com/pearlpirie poet where I combine photography, what I'm reading, and my previously published poems.
