Penny Fractions is a weekly newsletter that attempts to contextualize the ever-changing digital music industry, written by David Turner. It originated from sending increasingly rambling emails about various trends within music streaming to friends and people within the music industry. Then after realizing I was getting tired of cc'ing so many people I decided to make a newsletter.

The first Penny Fractions newsletter arrived in November 2017 and I've maintained delivering it at Wednesday morning at around 9:15am (EST) the since. I've covered everything from why musicians should pay attention to Twitch (before Drake hopped on Ninja's stream), accusations of fake streams put at Tidal, and imagining a post-capitalist music streaming world.

My background is in music journalism where I've written for Bandcamp Daily, Music Business Worldwide, Pitchfork, the New Yorker, Real Life Mag, Rolling Stone, Slate, and Spin. Currently my job is Curation Analyst at SoundCloud, so all thoughts here represent me, not my employer and this is why I won’t be covering the company.

My email is [email protected], if one would like to directly ask me a question. I try to answer most emails within a week but I frequently fall short of this incredibly low bar.
