Milestone Goals
A really good studio easel
I've been using studio easels on kind loan from other artists. It's time to get my own! $310 will get me a really nice, solid, sturdy studio easel.
Framing!
More and more of my works are being created on paper and you, my lovely crowd have been so supportive of these pieces. This goal will fund an exhibition of 10 works on paper, beautifully and professionally framed.
About
I've been making art for many years and I have a degree in drawing. I'm interested in promoting traditional drawing skills - but to be used in unexpected and totally un-boring ways. I love the way that people are using the internet to create their own "art worlds" - fan art and fan fiction are big inspirations. My official art bio thing;
"My paintings are about identity in our digital age. I work in acrylics to produce bright, unusual pieces that play with the mechanics and politics of representing the human figure.
My influences vary from the strong portraiture of Sargent and Hockney to the zany universe of online fan art. I am interested in the way that people use clothing, accessories and styling to create a vocabulary or language that expresses their identity. I particularly notice societal expectations to portray a gendered appearance, and I admire people who highlight or subvert this by taking it to a quasi-kitsch extreme, or reversing expectations. I’m not just concerned with human portraiture. My Little Pony figures have found their way onto canvasses through my brush. Bright images of these cult plastic toys will spark the imagination of the viewer by playing with scale and perspective. I paint my own My Little Ponies, kept from childhood. I find that these figurines are designed to display personality, allure, and big-eyed cute factor. "Location

My name’s Penny and I was born an artist.
I was made to paint, I was born to draw.

I was put on this earth to make you see things in a different way, to make you question, to shake things up, and to make you feel connected, to realise that you’re not alone - there are other people who see things in your weird way. Art joins the dots, and my art will join some of your dots.
It is not always easy being an artist
Often, the practicalities of living in this world make it hard for me to think sideways enough to create the kind of work that will really lift you out of a rut.
But every so often, I get the time, space, and resources I need to go wild in my studio, release the bats that have been roosting in my head, and create something that’s going to enrich your soul and lift your spirit. Hopefully, it will make you think “I can do that! I can get out there, be vulnerable, and show the world a little bit of my strange way of seeing things - and some of them will love me for it!"
Telling stories - like we do through any art form - is how we make lif bearable, understandable, and, in the very best moments, divine and beautiful.
So I need you to be my patron. Help me release those bats more often, and better. Be part of my community. Ask me hard questions about art. Own my art in a way that’s more financially accessible than one big purchase.

Why Become a Patron?
1) Art Becomes Accessible
Would you like to live in a world where everyone has the chance to earn a fair living for their hard work? How about a world where artists are valued members of their "village" - whether that's a real village or an online crowd? A world where art is affordable and accessible?
This is what I want! I also want to find a way of having a more predictable income, so I can plan projects and spend time improving my skills, in turn to bring you paintings that will simply wow, wonder, and inspire. Artworks that will enrich your soul and make you glad to live on this glorious planet.
Art is expensive - that's in part because of the time, and years of practise that go into the creation of each unique piece. So how can I make my work more affordable and accessible, without devaluing it? I hope that Patreon will give those lovely people who want to support my work and have a piece, or many of it, in their environment, a chance to do so in an affordable way.
2) Get Uncommon Knowledge
What's more, being part of my Patreon brings you into a creative community where we support each other in learning about art and ourselves. I'll be posting 1+ times a month, exclusively for Patreons, about a perplexing art topic. Expect to learn answers to questions like "Just why were Renaissance babies so ugly?" "What was it like for women artists before the 20th Century?" "How do I write a great residency or funding application?" and "Just how do I overcome this creative block that's been stopping me from painting these last 15 years?!"
If you have a burning question, send it my way and I'll do my best to answer - or I'll find someone else who can.
