A Podcast Broaching The Subject of Value With Artists
My name is Sarah Rachel Brown and I'm the host and producer of Perceived Value. I'm a contemporary jeweler recording the conversations I have with authors, musicians, ceramicists, jewelers, students, arts administrators, and anyone else attempting to combine their creative endeavors with how they get a paycheck.
One of my mentors described it as radical transparency - I'm very into that.

Perceived Value was an idea conceived out of my frustration for the lack of conversations regarding how to make a living as an artist. I was taught how to fabricate jewelry, but when I inquired how to price or sell my work, the answers were often vague.

I decided to tap into the experience I gained working at my college radio station and Googled 'how to start a podcast.'

Every two weeks I record, produce, and publish a Perceived Value episode.
Before that happens, I'm coordinating with potential guests while researching and planning my content. With each episode there is a blog post, a newsletter sent, and social media content published on multiple platforms.

On average, it takes me 20 hours of work per episode.

I LOVE creating this podcast and if you LOVE listening, I highly recommend becoming a patron of Perceived Value

Here's what folks on iTunes are saying:

For REAL though
Love listening to this podcast. I'm a very curious person and always want to ask those questions you "aren't supposed to." Thanks to Sarah I don't have to do it myself. I appreciate all the honesty; from dollars someone makes (or doesn't) down to the random sounds from the room. Curious Minds will love this podcast.

Not Just For Jewelers!
Sarah Rachel Brown reaches a refreshing level of transparency with her guests. She taps perfectly into the contemporary jewelry field, but her reach extends beyond jewelry as well. I can't speak highly enough of this podcast, and I look forward to each new episode's release! I recommend it for creatives in any field who aim to generate income from their work.
- Shelby Goldsmith

Top Value
A really informative and encouraging podcast for artists, especially if you fit the mold/s of art jeweller, emerging artist, working artist, curious maker. A podcast focussing on the very real issues related to being a practicing artist, presenting diverse opinions, paths, and motivations.
- Andy Lowrie
