About Phil Doleman

Hi, I'm Phil Doleman and I'm a ukulele player, teacher and workshop leader. I've been a main stage artist at all of the major UK ukulele festivals, taught at Sore Fingers Bluegrass and Old-time Summer School and at the West Coast Ukulele Retreat in California. I'm also the author of "How Music Works On The Ukulele" and have composed music for the London College of Music ukulele exams.

My passion is early 20th Century American music; blues, hokum, jug-band, jazz etc. This kind of music not only works really well on the uke, its ethos of making music with whatever was to hand also fits well with the 'grab a uke and get playing' attitude that makes the ukulele fun and accessible. It is also based on simple musical patterns, which are great in helping learners to develop their ear and understand how songs work.

With your support, I can take time out from my teaching and playing schedule to develop videos and accompanying resources, and because you, as my patron, are part of the process, you can get involved. These resources are your resources
