Thank you for considering supporting this patreon.

Here's the deal: Comics and visual language education is important work for which, unfortunately, there isn't a sturdy infrastructure for locally in Pittsburgh. That's where my work comes in.

Expressive drawing, visual language, sequential narrative, drawing the unthinkable effective editing, cartooning fundamentals, publication design:
I’m good at teaching this stuff. Really good. Just ask my students.

With your help through this patreon, we can coordinate a regular stream of free, community minded opportunities for kids and adults to make comics together in Pittsburgh. With your help we can independently maintain a steady, reliable flow of accessible comics arts programming. Your support not only pays for me, but allows me to pay fellow comics makers to host free activities throughout the city.

Key in this crowd-sourced funding approach is the removal of considerable financial burdens on learners to pay for educator's time fairly, while being fair to teachers’ time. Your support helps eliminate the financial barriers to good, holistic, community oriented comics education.

With your patronage, I'm hoping to be able to teach comics making and offer bonafide personal assistance and mentorship to makers, free of cost, as I believe it should be. Call me a socialist dreamer, but this is how I believe people should experience creativity in order to create new forms with the medium. I've found that this approach nurtures more personal, fulfilling approaches to comics making, which in the end is what matters in people's lives.

You can expect the scope of this work to manifest through hosting reading groups at public libraries, free group and 1-on-1 classes for youth and adults at maker spaces, email and phone support, and of course, the existing Pittsburgh Comics Salon activities.
I need your help to help others. I give a lot of my time to others, without asking anything in return. As I believe it should be.

Some may see this altruistic approach to time and energy as foolish. I respectfully disagree. I believe that this kind of generosity is what we are called to do with our skills and gifts as humans in a kind society. I would like to continue to be generous as an educator, but being realistic about the time and energy that it requires from me, I need your help.

As I'm sure you can imagine, it's very difficult to monetize this people-over-profits focused approach. That's why I'm asking for your help.

Commodity form as community form, through and through.

From the depths of my heart, thank you,

We can start a quarterly comics publication that can be distributed freely around the city's bookstores, libraries, infoshops and cafés.
