Dear Angels,

My name is Paula Jai Parker.

www.pjaiparker.com

Many of you may recognize me from acting in numerous films and television shows. If not, please feel free to Google me.
https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0005294/
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Paula_Jai_Parker
Believe it or not, throughout these twenty five years working as a professional actress, I have always had the desire to nurture young talent. Well, the spirit is definitely willing, but my pockets just aren't that deep. So, my business  partner, photographer Paula Morris, suggested we try Patreon.

For me, the concept of a Patron has always been unrealistic, a thing only seen on Turner Classic TV.

Something I always fantasied about, but saw as some fourteenth century romantic notion reserved for painters.

So, I've always tossed the number one rule of show business right out of the window, "Don't invest your own money". I figure if I don't believe in me why should you? Therefore, every dime I get I invest. And then I run out of funds, have to stop to recoup, get another job, do the job, then start all over again.
This prompted me to start my own production company, Sweet P. Productions. I also took camera classes, and started producing a kids show on public access tv, "Pasadena Kids Forum"
 https://youtu.be/edOsKGRx444
(Pasadena Arroyo Channel 36).
http://www.pasadenamedia.org/channel/arroyo/

In conjunction with the tv show I teach an "all screens" acting class for kids.

TV / Film / YouTube / Twitch, we teach acting for today's millennial kid! The entertainment industry has expanded to include video games and tutorials as acceptable forms of entertainment and employment. Video game profits actually far exceed the profits of movies and television production combined. Streaming outlets receive more accolades and sponsorship dollars than network tv. The old may not replace the new overnight but it's moving in that direction. We're moving with it. We provide acting for all screens.
We teach acting for Gamer Kids. Streaming / Tutorials / YouTube / Hosting (Game Show, News, Podcasting) As well as TV and Film😍

Itsawrap.studio

Weather your kid is proficient in XBOX / PS4 / SWITCH / PC / CELL PHONE / MACBOOK / IPAD, it doesn't matter, we teach all kinds of kids how to use their personality to gain more subs, and glean more gaming skills.

Everyone's doing it, but only a few do it well. Personality is innate and everyone can just turn it on at will, if taught how. We also offer our students introductions to representation in all avenues of entertainment. We also offer streaming and YouTube set up if needed.
These classes then matriculate into the TV show, giving kids an opportunity to money showcase their growth. Tune into Pasadena Kids Forum to check these kids out, in action.

https://youtu.be/edOsKGRx444

It's sad, Hollywood no longer grooms young talent. During the golden age of Hollywood, there were acting schools on every lot. Most famously Ethel Meglin, and her Meglin Kiddie Studio. Ethel was a famous Ziegfeld girl, She groomed Shirley Temple, Judy Garland, by giving the kids a tv show. The Our Gang Follies pulled their kids directly from Meglin.

With adequate funding, she was able to provide an invaluable service. She created the next generation of professional artists, crafted and ready to work. Acting is a craft just like auto shop or carpentry, it should be taught as a trade, especially in Los Angeles, "The City of Dreams".
Not all children are athletes. therefore they miss out on the comraidery and decline organized sports provide. That's where the arts become necessary. A child will use the skills of language, wit, and public speaking far longer than they'll need the ability to toss a ball. And by the same token those who soar in sports, will require the ability to speak comfortably in front of a camera, or crowd of adoring fans.
When I was a kid I was in a professional children's performing choir called "The Singing Angels". I saw the world with them, performing in professional choir competitions. That experience helped shape me into a disciplined performer. It is that discipline that keeps me going as an artist. It is that respect I desire to impart on kids.

Giving my full time to the kids would be magical, but I still have to prepare for and go on auditions to feed my family. Not to mention, a lot of parents can't afford to pay what I'm actually worth, and I understand that. My class is the only extracurricular activity my Son attends. So I've brought my prices way down, to compete with the other acting situations around town. but they don't have the work experience I do, so it's a little unbalanced and once again I end up paying for everything out of my pocket.

That includes the costs of the rental space, location cost, travel costs, gas, permits, storage disk drive, marketing, publicity, we need a green screen, paper, ink, props, sets, costumes, streaming software, editing software, Pasadena Access Media Membership dues, lights, cameras, we got the action.

The business was meant to cover me, when I'm not working, but so far I'm doing all the covering. I wish I was exaggerating, but I'm not. Public Access TV is free, so I'm not getting any monetary help from there either.

Starting my own production company will give me the independence I need to make my own projects and enable many others, like myself, to join forces with me, and not for free!

But, I need help. I can't do it alone. And I won't throw in the towel on these kids. I'll let you in on a little secret, the first of many I'm sure, my objective is to sell the concept of Pasadena Kids Forum, to a network, cable or streaming channel...

But until then, I've gotta keep the classes going. When the classes aren't up and running, we can't produce the kids show, "Pasadena Kids Forum".

https://youtu.be/edOsKGRx444
(don't forget to subscribe)

The classes should cover production costs and pay for my time, but I had one family unable to pay the $900 they owed, and we were unable to pay studio rent that month and forced to cut classes. Studio rental fees are $89 per hour. Now we rehearse 4 hours per month in studio, and 4 hours on location, and 6 hours in studio.

I know you work hard for your money, and I will too. Invest in our company. This is just the beginning get in on the now, and reap the benefits later. The Entertainment Industry is the best place to put your money because you receive residual payments on your investment. Checks every time your program is viewed. Checks that continue to payout to your descendants, long after your gone. I'm talking generational wealth, here People. That's the American dream.
I don't want a handout, I want partners, nurturers. Willing to put some skin in the game and go for it with me, not for me. We're in this together, every step, every meeting, one day at a time. Give meaning to life by helping others grow into the next big thing. I've been there, I can show them the way.  Let's make a difference that will directly shape the future. Do something great, something bigger than us, that will stand the test of time. Making money is fun!
