Hi, I'm Pooks and I'm going to write a book about writing with passion.
What I'm looking for? Hoping for? That what you'll check out this material and think it's helpful enough to toss a dollar or so a month my way so I'll finally get it written. You'll notice my reward levels are really low.
Wanta tag along?
You can read it as it's written [a chapter a month, if not more]. Any month that I don't have a chapter to post, I'll post Q&A on writing topics that will be chosen from those supplied by patrons at the $5 or more level.
[And don't be surprised if I pop in with other posts between the minimum monthly posts described above.]
You'll get to learn more about how to make sure the emotion in your head is on the page. How to tap into the emotional thread of a story so that people will care enough to read it. How to make your reader experience what the character experiences. And more.
This will be more or less a first draft. I won't be spending a lot of time trying to make it nice for you.
This means you will get to read some of the stream of consciousness snarky asides I write to myself as well as about others [oops] even though that stuff will get edited out later.
You'll get to read some of the embarrassing "learning moments" I endured so that maybe you won't have to, even if some of them get edited out later.
In other words, you may end up getting the fun version that my better angels [and editor] talk me out of publishing.
Writing with Passion [working title] will be available in trade paper and digital for all ereaders and apps. It will be a joint venture between Book View Café and my new publishing entity, Prithee & Gramercy Press.
What makes me the person to write this book?
Well, it's my most popular topic when I'm asked to speak to groups, so this tells me it's a subject a lot of people want to learn more about.
Also, I've been a writing instructor, lecturer and speaker around the state of Texas and beyond for over twenty-five years. There's a lot of experience in these bones, and a passion to share it.
I've been promising to write this book for years, and finally realized I never will. Why? Right now I'm under contract for my current romantic fantasy trilogy, and have two more series in the wings waiting to follow.
I can't justify taking the time to write nonfiction books which will have a smaller readership, when I have fiction readers waiting for my work that will be more profitable.
Unless there are enough of you interested in this project to fund its writing, or at least inspire me to finally get it done.
So let's give it a shot.
Let's do it!
~0~Oh yeah, the credentials! I've sold and published six novels via traditional publishing and am currently completing a three-book contract. As a screenwriter I have had paying but uncredited gigs. And I've won some awards. Here are a few of them:
Fellow, Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences [yes, the Oscar people]
Two-time Finalist, Nicholl Fellowships in Screenwriting - I'm the only writer in the history of the Fellowships to become a Finalist twice with two different scripts, and of that, I am very proud.
Finalist, RITA Award - Romance Writers of America
Winner, Golden Quill for Best Romantic Fantasy - Desert Rose Romance Writers of America
