About Plateau Astro
Astronomy should be accessible, affordable, and practical. Even in the middle of a city.

I'm Trevor Kjorlien and I live in the Plateau in Montréal, one of the most light-polluted cities in the world. It's also where I teach the sky.
When we think of astronomy, we often imagine going far outside of the city to avoid light pollution and looking at the night sky. This is truly an incredible place to enjoy astronomy, but it's inaccessible to many people. It's my mission to teach as much about the sky in the place that we live as affordably as possible.
Also, we are lucky to live in Montréal. Most people who live here don't know how much "space stuff" is going on here. The Canadian Space Agency is a brief bike ride away, our universities are discovering planets around other stars, and companies that are involved in the space industry are based in Montréal. I'd like more people to know about this.
Events and Workshops
In pre-COVID times, I would organize events, such as Moonrise where we would watch the Full Moon rise on the horizon from on top of Mont Royal. I would also do workshops, such as teaching how to see the International Space Station fly overhead, or how to witness the rotation of the Earth by watching a sunset.
Due to COVID-19, I've had to postpone most of these. But the teaching goes on.
Live Streams
Each week, I choose a topic and on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I do a ~15 minutes live stream on Facebook and Instagram about the subject.
Writing

Videos
Starting in autumn 2020, I will be creating video series about practical astronomy in a light-polluted city like Montréal.
