About Political Charge by Tokyo Sand

Hi there! Since 2017, I've been writing my blog, Political Charge, to help busy people get up to speed on what is going on in politics, and most importantly, how they can get involved. Simply put, my mission is to inspire voters to take political action throughout the year.

What do people say about Political Charge?
"Well researched and well explained. I love the positivity and suggestions for taking action instead of just getting mad."  Erin G., subscriber

"Political Charge is a go-to, a must-read for me and tons of my followers. I use it as a resource for my daily action email, and read it religiously as a citizen. It’s been an indispensable tool of the Resistance for me and countless others." Jessica Craven, writer of Chop Wood Carry Water

"Political Charge has helped me understand complex issues quickly and easily. It helps me be a part of conversations I would have previously avoided from lack of a basic point of reference. Thank you, Political Charge!"  Lainey F., subscriber

The messages I receive from readers who discover how great they feel when they take action, gives me such a boost. The action doesn't have to be big; it's the action itself that counts. I want to keep encouraging acts of micro-activism. If you, like me, believe in the power of activism to improve our government and society, I hope you will become one my Patrons today.

Why am I joining Patreon now?
Simply put, thanks to several viral posts, (starting with my #WhereAreTheChildren: How to Help post that landed in The Guardian to a recent post about how to get involved with the Senate races), my subscribers have skyrocketed, and keeping up with the costs of running the site and servicing my email list has gotten pretty expensive.

Time for transparency
Hosting the WordPress site and domain costs me $228/year. I just graduated from the free MailChimp plan and now, the monthly fee for my email list is $52.99/month. I am also subscribed to the Washington Post, the Atlantic, PoliticalWire and a few other quality journalism sources so I have the best information to reference. I spend anywhere from 15-20 hours a week researching, writing, and editing the blog. The ad service that WordPress runs on my site is barely covering the site costs and I would LOVE to get rid of them entirely. That's only possible with the help of Patrons.

How you can help
By becoming a Patron, you will be supporting a quality blog that is a lifeline for people who want to create change in politics and aren't sure where to start. Together, we can help more people realize that they CAN fit some activism into their otherwise busy lives. Our country needs engaged citizens more than ever.

To support my work, select a membership level that you're comfortable with. You'll be charged when you first join, and then at the beginning of the month thereafter. You can change your membership level or cancel anytime you wish. (I will claim all donations as income and pay state and federal taxes on them.)

Your support of my work means the world to me. I am so grateful for your consideration!!

With appreciation,
Tokyo Sand
