Poly in Pictures is a webcomic about polyamory, relationships, gender, and sexuality. Also sometimes some truly terrible puns.

What's Patreon?

It's a little bit like Kickstarter, but instead of a one-off crowdfund for one big project, many people pledge smaller recurring amounts. It's kind of like a subscription - in exchange for various exclusive perks, patrons give creators a consistent and somewhat predictable income. This makes a huge difference for an artist. And it's nice, because you can pledge as little as $1, and it can mean the difference between comics and no comics.

How does it work here for Poly in Pictures?

Some Patreon pages have you pledge per month, but my PiP Patreon page here is a Per Thing set-up. You can choose how much to pledge per comic, and you can also choose a monthly maximum. For example, "I'll give $1 per comic, up to $3 per month." (That means you don't have to pay anything if I have a rough month and can't make any comics.)

In exchange for your pledge you get perks (like behind the scenes photos, the CSP file of the comic, etc.), and you help us to reach overall goals. For example, when we hit $5 per comic I was able to remove the ads from Poly in Pictures. I really hated having to distract people and use up their attention just to keep the comic online, so that was a big deal for me!

How I got here

2014 was a real low point in my life. Poverty, housing issues, mental health crisis, it was awful. I made 6 comics, in the whole year.

In 2015 I found Patreon. 18 comics! Things were still tough, because it takes a long time to recover from the horrific low that was 2014. But the support of patrons helped so much - the money was a very good incentive, but the knowledge that people were willing to put hard-earned cash down to keep Poly in Pictures going was just incredible.

Thank you!

Thanks for reading this far, I really appreciate it. Please feel free to keep reading and take a look at the pledge rewards - and let me know if you think there's anything I've missed that would tempt you!

And a big thank you to my patrons. I don't think Poly in Pictures would still be here without you. I don't have to knit handwarmers for £1.50 per hour to pay for hosting any more, which means more energy and creativity for the actual comics! And your support means so much to me.

$1 or more per comic 9 patrons
This is you being super-awesome. Because of you, I am significantly more likely to make a new comic! As thanks, all patrons get access to a photo of my cat taken at the exact moment I posted the comic. It's like reality TV, but feline and low-stim.
Behind the Scenes
$2 or more per comic 8 patrons
Access to behind-the-scenes photos, a bit of waffle about what I was doing while I drew (I cannot unitask), maybe some information about where the comic came from or where the photo was taken, lazy comic snapchats (send me your snapchat username), access to a private Instagram account with exclusive minicomics (send me your Instagram username), and at least 30 minutes' notice when I'm about to start arting on Twitch. (Plus the lower tier rewards!)
Comic file
$4 or more per comic 1 patron
A Clip Studio Paint (CSP/Manga Studio) file of the comic with all the layers intact, so you can poke around and see how it all came together.
Roll Credits
$5 or more per comic 3 of 20 patrons
I'll thank you in the blurb below the comic, and your name can be a link to the URL of your choice. (Plus the lower tier rewards!)
Goals
$51 of $1,300 per comic
This is so implausible that I thought it might be fun to put on here. If we get to $1,300 per comic (about £1,000 GBP in June 2018), I can do on average two comics per month and consider this my full-time job! (Being disabled is a pretty expensive life choice.)
