About Jonathan McIntosh

THE PROJECT
This series of long-form video essays examines the intersections of masculinity, politics, and entertainment. Episodes may tackle a range of sociological issues but a special emphasis is placed on the depictions of masculinity embedded in movies, television, comic books, and video games. The messages pop culture sends to men and boys about our own manhood can often be both limiting and harmful. My hope is that this video series can open up conversations about how we, as a society, can work to achieve more constructive, cooperative and empathetic forms of masculinity. We also have a Pop Culture Detective podcast that covers similar topics but in a more casual formate and with more voices contributing to the media analysis.

UPCOMING VIDEO ESSAYS
VIDEO DETAILS
These are long-form video essays ranging from 15 to 30 minutes long. The longer format allows me to delve into how our culture is impacted by media and, conversely, how our media is impacted by culture. There will never be ads on anything I produce. Plus all my videos will be made available for free to everyone (including educators). Depending on the complexity of the topic, it can take anywhere from 8 to 15 weeks to finish a video project.

PODCAST DETAILS
Our monthly podcast series is called Pop Culture Detective: Audio Files and can be found via Apple PodcastsStitcherSpotify, or wherever you normally get your podcasts. You can also listen via our website here.

ABOUT ME
Hi! I’m Jonathan McIntosh, a video producer and pop culture critic. I’ve been creating online videos about social and political issues for a over a decade. A few years ago I had the honor of working as producer and co-writer on the first season of Feminist Frequency’s influential web series Tropes vs Women in Video Games. You may have also seen some of my remix work like Buffy vs Edward or Donald Duck meets Glenn Beck.
