We live in turbulent times. Yet turbulent times, as uncomfortable as they are, can bring out the truly heroic and courageous within people.

From its inception in 2012, PopMythology.com has always sought to be a blog that could encourage, inspire, and nurture the inner hero within readers by way of its Hero Wisdom section. This heroic potential is within everyone but it doesn't always get awakened, particularly when there is much fear, resentment, anger, and aggression.

The enormous popularity of pop culture franchises such as Marvel, DC, Star Wars, and Game of Thrones serves as an opportune time to reach fans of these imaginative properties and to help spark their moral imaginations. I draw equally from the disciplines of anthropology, psychology, and philosophy for the wellspring of wisdom they offer. But I use the vocabulary of pop culture as my "language."

It is my hope that by reaching out to those who feel deeply drawn to pop culture, and by helping to awaken their innate heroism and moral imaginations, Pop Mythology can serve as one small contribution towards helping our culture pass through these turbulent times in one piece and to emerge stronger and, hopefully, wiser.

**The SHORT-TERM goal of this Patreon is to cover basic monthly operating costs of PopMythology, all of which I've paid for myself for the past 5 years.**

**The LONG-TERM goal of this Patreon is to someday reach basic income level ($1012) for the creative content that I offer
. I also hereby take Scott Santens' Big Patreon Creator Pledge, in which we Patreon creators share our resources with each other as soon as, and as much as, we can.**

I don't use a paywall on the site, so you don't need to be a patron to be able to access all the content on the site which is, and will remain, FREE to everyone.

I do realize that campaigns that offer exclusive perks tend to offer more patrons and that is fair, but  you can think of it this way: when a street artist performs, everyone on the street can enjoy the performance for free whether they contribute anything or not. But if you appreciate what the artist is trying to do, and have a couple bucks to spare, you can pitch in a little something if you wish to.

The same applies to my HERO WISDOM column. I see it as a form of street art. If you appreciate it and would like to support my work, then any and all patronage would be deeply appreciated. If not, you are still welcome to the content.

Note: it goes without saying that patrons can discontinue support at any time for any reason.

Goals
$27 of $55 per month
$50 a month would just about cover the most basic monthly operating costs of PopMythology.com (hosting, domain registration, plugins, backups, malware scanning, etc.). I'm officially making the actual goal $55 to account for Patreon's fees.
