Dear Popspoken reader,

My name is Kyle Malinda-White, and I am the founding head of content development here at Popspoken.

You may have seen me from bylines in Deutsche Presse-Agentur, CNN, Yahoo, MSN and Channel NewsAsia. But today, I'd like to talk about a culture brainchild.

We started Popspoken in 2011 in my living room, with two founders (both mass communications students), a packet of briyani and some choice teh peng -- with a singular mission: to address the gap of honest, incisive and relevant cultural news and commentary for today's generation of conscious, aspirational Singaporeans.

Six years on, many things have changed but our humble mission still stays true. Only now, we have more than 20 curators and editors on our platform, each one with a burning passion to tell honest and engaging stories and culture and experiences for today's generation.

Our writers come from all sorts of backgrounds, and we accept everyone as is our policy of diversity and inclusion: ages, races, religions, sexual and gender identities, beliefs.

We've uncovered influencer debates with Faves Asia, embezzlement rumours from 1 World Music Festival, a Zouk raid with Cosmic Gate on deck, raves overseas with Phillippines' Wanderland and Pattaya's Wonderfruit, sat in a room with rising cult personalities like war photographer Steve McCurry and US ambassador to Singapore Kirk Wagar.

We are all doing this as a passion project and hope to do more by pooling more resources.

We're hoping to keep this project going and be able to remunerate our curators so that you continue getting stories and experiences that matter to you, with plans to provide speedy content as well as longreads on cultural topics pertinent to the Singapore and regional landscape.

Here's why we need your support to keep on going:

1) Allow us to line the pockets of our curators

Your support helps keep our curators and editors motivated to produce great content - and your contributions go to them directly. The Popspoken entity takes cuts from big projects and spreads them out.

2) You have a say in what you want to read

This is content for you, after all. With your support, we'd also like to involve you in the process of brainstorming and coming up with great, timeless content.

3) So that we don't use paywalls or other ways to block content

We believe in the freedom of information, and putting a paywall just makes it difficult for you to access the content that you need. We'd like to keep content open for you to access, 24/7.

Together, we can build a greater future for the culture of today's generation.

Thank you,
Kyle.
