You'll receive tiny, weirdo zines in the mail -- every one we publish, which means two a month! Will it be poems? Jokes? A collage? Maybe all of the above. Anyway, mail is great. You'll love it. Plus you'll get access to all my page, life, and press updates through this page.
This early bird tier is now closed! Original subscribers keep the lower rate we introduced when we only published once a month. New subscribers can subscribe to the "New zine pals" tier, which carries all the same benefits and more accurately reflects the cost and labour of producing our increased production of goodies flowing straight to your mailbox!
Despite the royal "we", this press is a one-person show run by yours truly; my name is Dessa Bayrock, and I make tiny books and I send mail. These are really my strengths in life, which is why I started a tiny zine press and began mailing tiny books to the people I love. That means you!
A monthly subscription (scroll down to "new zine pals" in the tier options) costs just $5 CAD -- that's $3.75 USD -- and guarantees you something in the mail every month. Often this means microchaps -- zine-style chapbooks featuring a single poem or a few short poems. We've also been known to send stickers (including poems on stickers!), matches, and all kinds of other strange and interesting stuff. To me, sending mail remains one of the most archaic and intimate ways to connect to other people; I love the idea of poems flying all over the world and landing in mailboxes. And who doesn't love the idea of getting something other than a VISA bill from time to time? It's also been deeply important to me to keep our publications small, handheld, intimate: you might not have time to read fifteen poems in a row in a normal chapbook, but each of our microchaps is designed to put poetry in your life in less than five minutes: you can read it over breakfast, you can read it on the train, you can keep it in your pocket for any small snatches of time that present themselves to you. This is the basis for the unofficial mantra of the press: put poems everywhere.
The press just celebrated its one-year anniversary and I'm so grateful and excited to be able to do what I do. You can visit the press site for more information about how and why it works the way it does, or visit the Etsy shop to get extra copies of our microchaps for all your friends.
A little more about me, Dessa: I'm a PhD student at Carleton University, studying CanLit and book prizes. I write poems about ghosts and Ontario and, once, my best friend's hair, which have been published in Spy Kids Review, Cotton Xenomorph, and IDK Magazine, among others. I also play third base on one of Ottawa's most poorly-scoring and lovable softball teams, volunteer on the board of a non-profit committed to building culture in the Fraser Valley, curate the literary section of Raspberry magazine, and once wrote a Riverdale-themed choose-your-own-adventure. In my spare time, I feel hugely blessed to be able to run this press and support the vital voices of poets and creators all over the world. Thank you for allowing me to do what I love!
