Editing is an important part of the writing process. And it's an amazing part too! You get to take this thing that you created, and polish it and tweak it to make it into the best story that you can possibly tell.
So why do I put it off so much? The edits for Kills Like River are due today, and I'm only about halfway done. It's not like it would take all that long to complete, but things keep coming up that I prefer to do. Needless to say, tonight is going to be a long night of editing.
And then I have to finish the edits for Admin Hunter. I have this one final draft to finish before I can send it off to the editor. That is going to be next week's major writing project. Edits, and then more edits. But it will be done in time to send out to my Patreon followers in July!
Okay, enough about editing. The last few weeks I have spent talking about another project, and trying to come up with my main idea for it. Well, after a lot of discussions with many different people, I finally have the story figured out!
The project is being written for the Tales From the Fluffy Bunny anthology, published by Wolfsinger Publications. More details about the project will be sent out to my $5+ Patreon supporters later this week. Trust me, it will be awesome. The challenge with this story will be that it has to be a comedy. I haven't written comedy before, so that will be fun.
Besides writing and planning I'm trying to get ready for Denver Comic Con. I ordered a fresh stock of books to sell, and I had to order a new set of business cards with my new logo on it. When all was done I went about $100 over budget (after purchasing books, new logo, shipping for books, business cards, shipping for business cards, and the table at DCC), which I hope to make up later this month when I go to the con. So everyone should stop by and buy lots of books! I'll have plenty of Domesticated Velociraptors to sign if you stop by our booth.
Well, that's all for this week!
Thrawn, by Timothy Zahn (Audio)
Fantastic book, of course! I love Timothy Zahn's Star Wars books. His writing is fantastic and this character in particular is interesting. Great book about how Thrawn (from the Heir to the Empire series) came to the Empire and how he, being a non human especially, earned the rank of Grand Admiral. It's a fascinating view of the Empire from the inside with lots of hints about some large secret project the Empire is working on. 5 stars.
The Rogue Retrieval, by Dan Koboldt (ebook)
Still working on this book. It's still an interesting world and the characters are definitely interesting enough to keep me reading. There are a few things I'm noticing about the writing that I could see myself doing in my writing that I'll have to keep an eye out for, so it's helpful in that regard. I'm still undecided about what rating I'll give it. It's definitely at least 3 stars because it's interesting enough for me to keep reading, but a few things keep showing up that bug me a bit and it definitely hasn't been a book that I just can't put down. I think a lot of it will come to how well the ending is written.
Besides reading these two books I have been doing a lot of playing Overwatch on xbox.
Summer is here! Malikai finished up school last week and has been doing a fantastic job at being proactive with his chores before he starts having fun doing whatever it is a 10 year old does when he doesn't have to go to school.
Last weekend was Memorial Day, which gave me a much needed three day break from work, in which I spent pretty much the entire time staying up late playing xbox games with my wife and son. It was fun, but not at all productive. :D
Now that the weather is warming up we hope to get some use out of that basketball hoop that we set up, and I need to get out and start walking the dog. She's been doing well, by the way. We still have the usual trouble involved with house breaking a puppy, but beyond that she's been great.
Also, summer time means Renaissance Festival! I love going to the Ren Faire, but had to miss it last year. I can't wait to go back again this year, at least once. The trouble is figuring out which weekend to go to. I try to pick the Celtic weekend, but I'm not sure that will work out with my schedule this year. Oh man, I can't wait!
Have a great summer everyone! Get out there and do something awesome, and then relax from doing awesome things by reading great books. :)
