Patreon allows more freedom. I can attach multiple images as you can see. While it's technically possible on Facebook, often things end up in a mess. It's a pain to find old updates. It's simply not fun. I can keep things organised on Patreon. There is no paywall. If you don't want to financially support me that's okay. Everyone will get the same content. Frankly, if anybody on Facebook doesn't want to click a link to a Patreon update they probably wouldn't be that bothered about Outlaw Star research anyway. So, onto the update...
Looks like I've finally got all the extra chapters. Unfortunately I'm left feeling quite confused. It turns out that the "Outlaw Star 2" in the Nakayoshi doujinshi is an exact copy of the #21 Chaser chapter. The only theory I can come up with is that Takehiko Ito produced this doujinshi before the respective Ultra Jump magazine was published, i.e. before it got the "Chaser" name. Unfortunately, at the end of the chapter is the dreaded "to be continued" and even though I haven't translated it yet (I'm doing all of this chronologically) it appears too anti-climatic for an ending anyway. Here's the cover which you might recognise.
The good news is that in the "About Azell" doujinshi there seems to be what could be a chapter #22. Indeed, this is beyond what we thought were the four final chapters. "21" is referenced in an explanation at the start, perhaps stating it's a continuation of that. This chapter is very action-packed. Gene scores with Aisha and Suzuka (you'd never have seen that in the anime!) and the final couple of pages suggest we might have a happy ending on our hands. I don't know yet for sure yet.
I only just got this Ultra Jump magazine (with the "final" Chaser chapter) today. Below is a photo of a couple of panels. I found this fascinating since the chapter is batshit crazy and if you know your stuff about the Toward Stars universe, yes, that does appear to be Juji (protagonist of Future-Retro Hero Story) suspended in a chamber of sorts. Since the events of FRHS were much earlier than OLS, maybe he was frozen in time?
Oh, and finally below is an image of the other things I got in the Japan package (as well as an extra copy of the OLS art book I'm scanning today!) which are the figures at the right. A little off-topic, but if you know what they're from +1 to you.
In the next update will be the scans of the "Promotional" art book, or off-site scans if it's too much to attach. (Edit: It will be, but I'll host them on a fast and easy-to-use server until I've made the library website.)
