If We Don’t Know What Consciousness Is Or Means, Why Are We So Scared Of It?
 
This is about 1700 words on Elon Musk and Stephen Hawking's comments this year about "artificial intelligence." They are… Well they're really technophobic about it, honestly, which is just damn weird. As I said, elsewhere, it boils down to this: For the species that just landed on a comment, "Fear Of The Unknown" is a little remedial. So here's this, and please always remember what the fallacy of "appeal to authority" teaches us: The mere fact that someone is an expert--either at all or in specific--doesn't mean that we should uncritically flock to their opinion.
