Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice
is one of the most enthralling, and emotionally taxing, video game releases of 2017. I reached out to fellow critic Jed Pressgrove for an hour (or so) long conversation about the strain of playing Hellblade
, how the personalities of the enemies keep the combat from getting too repetitive, and where Senua's writing and presentation avoid demonizing those who suffer from mental illness.
This episode will be available publicly and, if successful, I have a long-term idea involving the history of fighting games I might pursue with Jed. So please - if you have any questions, comments, gripes, or observations - feel free to chime in and let me know what you think.
