Soul Scroll / Holy Roller - A Prayer Machine
The Soul Scroll or Holy Roller as Offred calls it. This is my tribute to The Handmaid's Tale. A world where women are so devalued a machine is allowed to think, read and pray but they are not. They must order and pay for their prayers by phone from the Soul Scroll store and fund the elders of the country of Gilead.

It is live at @SoulScroll1 on Twitter so ask it for a prayer with the directions below:

Use these emoji to order a prayer to be read for you.

Margaret Atwood describes them in the book as printout machines that print out prayers on endless rolls of paper. The prayers go on endlessly. They are ordered by Compuphone and they are a sign of ones faithfulness and piety to the regime. The person ordering the prayer presses a number for the type of pray and how many times the prayer will be repeated. Money is withdrawn from the Compucard.

The machines talk as they print out the prayers, "the toneless metallic voices repeating the same thing over and over".  "Each machine has an eye painted in gold on the side flanked by two golden wings"

"The machines talk as they print out the prayers."
