For example, this past winter Kathy took on the challenge of skiing 100 miles without much of a break. Ras has completed the nearly 100 mile loop on the Wonderland Trail two times in a row - yes that’s approximately 200 miles without much of a break. They have thru hiked the Arizona Trail together, but not just a one-way thru hike. They completed a yo-yo where they hiked it north then turned around and hiked it south to go back to their original starting point. They had so much fun doing it that they created another yo-yo style adventure on the Grand Enchantment Trail.
Ras and Kathy mesh adventure lifestyling with super long and non-traditional outdoor adventures and they want to share the physical and mental health benefits of slow and steady movement with others.
This is part of what led them to create Ultrapedestrian Wilderness Challenge which, if you haven’t heard of it, is a series of challenges, not races, on remote and beautiful trails in Washington State. Last week they had the 2017 Ultrapedestrian Wilderness Challenge wrap-up and 2018 kick off party in Seattle where they announced this year’s new routes.
They have created a novel approach of getting people of all kinds inspired to explore outside, and into the most beautiful spaces in Washington State and their love for the outdoors, adventure lifestyling, and support of one another through it all shines through and that’s why they are Boldly Went’s adventure heroes of the week.
