Finally. I got back to where I belong.
Under the moon. Guitar in hand. Stories to sing with people to listen. Lit up amongst the darkness. March 15 2018.
It turns out I hadn't played a 'real' gig like this for almost 3 entire years. ACTUAL WHAT. I took such a massive break from singing my stories out loud because I got lost somewhere way in the deep. I was tired. I was sad. I was broken. It was pretty fucked. Any time I seemed to get traction with a new melody or lyric, my feet would slip somewhere unexpected and the desire to play would just... evaporate. Almost like it never even existed. But I knew that it had. I knew that it could. I was searching. And I knew it wouldn't look the same as it had before, but I knew I would just feel it when the time was right.
When Paul from Sofar Sounds in my hometown of Perth asked me to play a special gig for them in celebration of International Women's Day, I'd JUST bought a new guitar and toys to play with and I knew it was time.
So I got it all together: the electric, loop pedal, beat machine, effects pedal.. and some never-before-played songs. Along with Ellie Shoen and Grace Sanders, I got back on the horse and baby, she burned through the night.
And just like that, I'm back where I belong.Under the moon. Guitar in hand. Stories to sing with people to listen. Lit up amongst the darkness.
