The 1939 New York World's Fair was called just that. Famous exhibits included The World of Tomorrow, Futurama, the Trylon and the Perisphere. The Golden Gate International Exposition in San Francisco was held the same year. By this time city fathers thought that a World's Fair could bring in lots of revenue. In 1939 there were also World's Fairs in Wellington, New Zealand (Centennial Exhibition); Liege, Belgium (Exposition internationale de L'eau); and Zurich, Switzerland (Schweizerische Landesausstellung).
