Recently was the 73rd anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising. On the 1st August 1944 at 5 p.m. in the city of Warsaw begun an uprising of its citizens and Polish soldiers against Nazi Germans occupying the city. It lasted 63 days and was lost mainly due to the planned inactivity of Russian army staying on the other side of river Vistula and not even trying to fight the Germans. During the uprising died about 10 000 Polish soldiers and 150 000-200 000 civilians due to the massacres organized by Nazi Germans. This day is one of the most important anniversaries in Poland.
The symbol of joined letters P and W that is painted on the wall and on the girl's armband means "Polska Walcząca" (in English "Poland fighting").
