Team Performance Anxiety - Satchel Douglas and Justin Van Emmerik (3:09)
Satchel Douglas and Justin Van Emmerik make it sound like they might be novices to the sport in this interview, but turns out Satchel is a Race to Alaska finisher (2017) and Justin is a long time rower. We love that their goal was to do this for as close to free as possible, which included borrowing their racing craft from Seize the Oar in Renton, WA, an inclusive rowing community where rowers of any ability can participate and thrive.

Off the record interviews with these 2 revealed that Satchel is a sailing geek (the good kind) who knows everything about every boat and every team. He was my best source for local intel at the Race to Alaska start and, he champions women sailors, including being on crew with Nathalie Criou Racing  (See his hat in the picture?)

Side note: must connect with Nathalie Criou! Just checked out this website, and wow!!

We enjoyed meeting Justin and Satchel so much we offered them the super highly sought after unpaid position as the Boldly Went San Francisco Sailing correspondents.  Maybe they'll  let us know in the comments if they accept....fingers crossed....
