Pink Moon in my Front Yard
Welcome to the latest installment of my ‘Happy Birthday, Hero” series, where I play a song by someone I love and release it on her/his birthday. Past installments include, Joni Mitchell, Lyle Lovett, John Prine, John Hartford…but this one is for Nick Drake, who would have been 70 years old today. Nick's albums were pretty much the soundtrack of my college years, and even the way I sing now was influenced by his quiet, delicate way of doing it.

A few weeks ago, I promised Kaitlyn Kraitz and Ben Plotnick - better known as Oliver the Crow - that I’d make them dinner if they’d help me with Drake's song Pink Moon.  We recorded this in one live take with one mic, with my neighbor's weird car in the background and my tiny smoking grill heating up the coals. Real life, y'all.

And since I know you're supposed to give presents on birthdays, here's an mp3 of Pink Moon (the same audio as is in the video), for you to download and listen to as much as you like.

While you're on your computer, do yourself a favor and check out Oliver the Crow's brand new self-titled album, out June 22!
