Dave and Cathy are experienced sailors. In fact, Cathy was supposed to be racing a sailboat race in Portland the evening of June 12, but she ditched that plan when she realized Dave was running so far ahead of schedule and she had to hurry north make it to Port Townsend in time to see Dave finish.
Dave only very recently took up SUPing when he decided to try something different from sailing. He entered the Seventy48 for the challenge. A true Canadian, he decided the race wasn't long enough, so to make it a bit tougher, he added 10 additional miles taking a more scenic course on the western side of Bainbridge Island rather than the eastern side which is what the majority of racers did. Listen now to hear their interviews and learn about his route choice and how that paid off in the end.
Note to listeners: Dave did follow through with getting a Seventy48 tattoo.
