Fatal Early Morning Accident Shuts Down Route 205 For Hours
An early morning head on collision between a mini-van and a car resulted in one fatality and one injured, shutting down traffic on Route 205 for several hours while State Police Reconstruction teams investigated the accident. 

  On the morning of June 26, 2018 an early morning head on collision claimed the life of one driver and sent another to Mary Washington Hospital with severe but non-life-threatening injuries according to reports from State Police and Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department.  

  At approximately 10:00 a.m. Colonial Beach Volunteer Fire Department posted the following,   

  “At 0846 toned for a two vehicle head-on accident in the area of 20345 Ridge Road. One driver deceased on the scene. One driver transported to MWH with non-life threatening injuries. Ridge Rd/205 will remain shut down in the area of the accident for an undetermined amount of time.⚠️"

  Approximately an hour later CBVFD posted the following notice to their facebook page alerting residents of the road closure.   

  “Ridge Rd/205 will remain CLOSED in the area of Rosier Creek for an undetermined amount of time.” 

   Virginia State Police Public Information Officer, Sergeant Keeli L. Hill issued a press release.  

  Early reports described the accident occurring at approximately 8:48 a.m. on June 26 in the vicinity of the 20300 block of Ridge Road aka Route 205 in Westmoreland County. 

 According to an update from Sergeant Keeli,

 "The  Trooper's preliminary investigation reveals that Mathew Wayne Blair,  28, of Colonial Beach, Va., was driving a 1997 Dodge Grand Caravan  southbound on Route 205 when he crossed the center line, and struck a  1996 Chrysler Concorde driven by Patricia Kaye Copfer, 67, of Colonial Beach, Va., head on."  

  Both vehicles only contained the drivers and no other occupants.   

  The driver of the Dodge was transported to the Mary Washington Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The driver of the Chrysler unfortunately succumbed to her injuries at the scene. 

  The crash is still under investigation with the assistance of the Virginia State Police Crash Reconstruction team.
